Jewish Home at Rockleigh
Love Added to Each
and Every Bite
2012 represents the first year that the Dietary Services
team has been led and managed entirely by the Jewish
Home at Rockleigh staff — totally committed to continually
enhance the dining experience for residents, staff,
volunteers, and visitors each and every day.
Through intelligent and careful purchases, our management
team has improved the quality and variety of
meals, preparing and serving the finest and freshest
kosher foods available. The “new and improved” features
we implemented this year include: monthly resident
Culinary Club meetings with demonstrations of “how to
make” items such as kugel, hamantashen, fish cakes and
a variety of different salads, along with some store
bought items for residents to sample. Menu changes on
Friday evenings include a variety of new kugel recipes as
well as a wide variety of soups, and “home baked”
desserts like baked cinnamon apples, chocolate chip and
sugar cookies, apple cake and brownies.
We provide extra special dining delights during Shabbaton
weekends when young adults come and stay with us
for Shabbat. They engage and delight our residents
with their knowledge and enthusiasm, as seen on the
residents’ faces as they interact during mealtime.
The weekly summer resident BBQ’s have proven to be a
big hit as we offer hot dogs, hamburgers and watermelon
with all the fixings.
Visitors and staff at “Carl’s Place” enjoy new daily breakfast
and lunch specials. Cruise week was exciting this year,
with foods that enhanced the African Safari theme.
There is one very important ingredient that is included
with each and every meal we serve. Each Dietary team
member performs his or her tasks with love and adds this
love into every bite taken by our residents. We truly enjoy
serving all of you!
Jewish Home Assisted Living
The Heart of Every Home
is the Kitchen
The residents at Jewish Home Assisted Living are
enjoying a country club dining experience. Food is an
important part in everyone’s life… At JHAL it’s become
the most important part of the day!
Recently JHAL celebrated five years since opening its
doors. Residents, family members, staff and volunteers
were treated to a delectable tasting of desserts as we
celebrated the residents we serve and the employees
who have been with us since the facility opened. The
display was breathtaking. Those attending could see for
themselves why JHAL has developed a wonderful reputation
for dining enjoyment.
When asking the residents why they are so happy, many
reply it is due to the menu options and the combination
of variety and traditional cuisine. Some of our more
traditional meals are offered for Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah,
Yom Kippur, and other holidays which, of course,
includes Passover and two wonderful Seders. Year after
year more and more family members come to JHAL to
share the holiday with their parents or grandparents and
enjoy the true Jewish flavor of JHAL’s cuisine.
The Food Service Department also offers favorite dishes
from France, Italy, Israel and Latin America, just to name
a few. Two of our residents this past year celebrated
milestone birthdays as they turned 101 and 103. It was
no surprise that food was a big part of the celebration.
The residents at JHAL also assist in creating meals. It has
become a tradition for some of our female residents to
assist in preparing dinner for the holidays as they share
their secrets with all who dine at the assisted living.
The heart of every home is the kitchen — at JHAL we
always keep that in mind!
