Race 7 Selections by Chad Rozema
THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
8 BOLI made up some ground down the stretch last time but wasn’t able to pass many and wound up 6 th . Tonight he drops for his third start off the
shelf and his last winning effort came in this class. He’s become more consistent this year but I’m sure his best is yet to come. The well bred
sophomore hails from top connections and should be in contention for top honors.
2 TORTOLA SUNRISE probably should have been able to close the deal on the front at Georgian Downs in his latest but finished 4 th . He’s back to
Mohawk where he’s won 2 of his past 3 tries. An off the pace approach might be the trip of choice this week as he’s done well using that strategy.
An inside draw for the Moreau pupil should keep him near the leaders and he’s a top threat.
10 PISCEAN draws poorly but she does have the gate speed required to get into the early mix. The Andover Hall filly had struggled with breaks
recently calling for the addition of trotting hopples last time. She behaved to earn a show finish in her Casual Breeze division. She’s shown the
necessary speed in the past to be a contender at this level and I expect her to be heard from if the trip works out.
6 SHOW BIZ HALL didn’t offer as much as I had hoped down the lane last time but a 1:53.3 winner might have had something to do with that. He’s
minded his manners the past two outings which is a small victory and is becoming more reliable. The draw is just fine and a peak effort could be in
store tonight as he makes his third start off the shelf.
WORTH A LOOK
(1) MAGIC SHELLEY had some traffic issues in her latest but was doomed turning for home chasing a strong front end winner. The improved post
helps and she was a solid 2 nd at this level just four back.
(3) CANDIDA didn’t win last week but her 2 nd place effort while posting a 1:54.2 mile has to be considered the best of her career. The 1 time winner
is tough to back for top honors but she will garner more respect tonight.
(4) STEEL RESERVE self-destructed in his NYSS division while in play for a top share. He’s hit the board in some recent tries on this circuit and the
Maxwell stable has been dangerous all year.
