studies that documents rights-based approaches to development from developmental<br />

programmes and civil society experiences culled from across the Asia-Pacific Region.<br />

A special note of thanks goes to the <strong>Lessons</strong> <strong>Learned</strong> Project Advisory Group<br />

The Project would like to acknowledge the support of the Asia Regional Governance<br />

Programme of the UNDP Regional Center <strong>in</strong> Bangkok <strong>in</strong> publish<strong>in</strong>g this volume of<br />

case studies as well for support<strong>in</strong>g the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation that will<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g together lead<strong>in</strong>g human rights NGO representatives, grassroots practitioners,<br />

academics, <strong>in</strong>terested donors, UN agencies and <strong>in</strong>dependent advocates from countries<br />

<strong>in</strong> the Asia-Pacific region as well as key focal po<strong>in</strong>ts from UNDP and OHCHR offices<br />

<strong>in</strong> Geneva and New York to Bangkok <strong>in</strong> September 2005 to discuss the case studies<br />

and the lessons learned there<strong>in</strong> and how these can be culled, applied and used for<br />

future rights-based programm<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The Project would also like to thank all those who provided <strong>in</strong>valuable support and<br />

contributed while <strong>in</strong> the process of document<strong>in</strong>g and writ<strong>in</strong>g the case studies and they<br />

have been <strong>in</strong>dividually acknowledged <strong>in</strong> each of the case studies documented and<br />

<strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> this volume.<br />

<strong>From</strong> January to June 2005 - as a part of the Project activities - the <strong>Lessons</strong> <strong>Learned</strong><br />

Project held workshops and consultations <strong>in</strong> most of the countries where the case<br />

studies have been documented. Several people at the country-level deserve mention<br />

for mak<strong>in</strong>g these workshops and consultations happen: they <strong>in</strong>clude Monjurul Kabir<br />

and Larry Miramis from UNDP Bangladesh; Imrana Jalal (and the entire Regional<br />

<strong>Rights</strong> Resource Team) from UNDP Fiji; Pradeep Sharma and Marie Louise Muff<br />
