Minutes of the April 2, 2012 Council Meeting
Dianne Zimmermann, Manager, Strategic Relations, Renewable Energy with Suncor
Energy and Chris Scott, Project Developer, appeared before Council to introduce a
proposed wind power project in the Cedar Point area of Lambton Shores.
Details were provided on the terms for a proposed 100 mw wind power project, the
requirements still to be completed by Suncor, efforts made to date on the layout design,
the archeological studies, natural heritage assessment site survey as well as
information on the project’s anticipated schedule.
Council questions on the cost of a kilowatt of hydro, the life span of the turbines and
required setbacks were addressed.
4.3 Jessica Van Swol, St. Clair Conservation Authority – Re: Cost-Share
Program & Formation of Steering Committee
Ms. Jessica Van Swol of the St. Clair Conservation Authority provided information to
Council on the Lambton Shores Clean Water Cost-Share program and discussed the
formation of a landowner based steering committee that would provide local input as
this program moves forward.
Ms. Van Swol advised that 1 or 2 Councillors would be asked to sit on this steering,
committee and also asked that the municipal building official assist with promoting the
program by handing out information sheets, and compiling a list of contractors/septic
inspectors that would be able to pass on information to their clients. Permission to use
municipal publications to advertise the program and a letter of support from Council to
landowners encouraging participation in the program was also requested.
4.4 Susan Mills, Manager – Grand Bend and Area Chamber of Commerce -
Grand Bend Tourism –Re: Lambton Shores Support of 2012 Visitors’
Services
Ms. Susan Mills, Manger of Grand Bend Tourism presented a request to Council for
financial support for the tourism services provided by the Grand Bend and Area
Chamber of Commerce for Lambton Shores for 2012.
Ms. Mills presented highlights of the ongoing tourism services provided such as the
Annual Visitors’ Guide, Welcome Centre, marketing and advertising, tourism
partnerships and in-kind community support.
She further offered her appreciation on behalf of the Grand Bend and Area Chamber of
Commerce Board of Directors for the generous support of the tourism services in 2011
and outlined the financial challenges that will be faced in 2012.
Ms. Mills requested Council to consider financial support of approximately 15,000. in
2012 to assist with the projected costs associated with tourism services.
