Nothing to hide at Sidart
Auckland diners take note – Sid
Sahrawat’s restaurant in Auckland’s
Ponsonby Road has followed the trend
for interactive cooking and dining. The
premises have been remodeled to open
up the kitchen for full viewing. Patrons
can approach the chefs, discuss meals
and watch their next course being
plated up.
This refreshing open space is
complemented by an exquisite new
entrées menu that showcases a range of
scintillating creations by Sid Sahrawat.
Created with a selection of organic
vegetables and free-range meats, the
new entrées are sure to entice appetites
and tantalize tastebuds.
Maltese showstopper
What do you get when a talented designer
is let loose on a 450 year-old townhouse in
the Maltese port of Vittoriosa? The answer
is Indulgence Divine. That’s the name of
this utterly distinctive townhouse for two,
recently restored with an injection of colour
and sensuous design.
Bespoke furniture sits comfortably alongside
some decidedly funky “found” pieces, all
contrasting with the venerable stone walls
and exquisite wall hangings. The master
bedroom was once a private chapel, so a
stone arch frames the inner sanctum. You’ll
find the private roof terrace is the perfect
spot to unwind with a glass of wine at dusk
when the heat of the day starts to dissipate.
The capital Valletta is just a short ride by
water taxi and your booking includes a pick-up from the international airport. Our verdict:
if you want a very cool base while you explore Malta, this could be your home away
from home.
Chandigarh welcomes its first 5-star hotel
This northern Indian city has its first luxury hotel with the opening of the JW Marriott
Chandigarh. Speaking at the opening of the JW Marriott Chandigarh, Rajeev Menon,
Marriott International’s Area Vice-President, said: “The opening of a JW Marriott Hotel in
Chandigarh is a great milestone for us as Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India with
architecture which is world renowned, and a quality of life which is unparalleled.”
The JW Marriott Chandigarh aims to combine the best traditions of international luxury
and Indian style. The Grand Ballroom, with a majestic ceiling height of more than 6 metres,
stylish design and grandeur, will be a fitting venue for elegant weddings in Punjab.
Luxury, Croatian style
If you’ve never visited the Adriatic coast of Croatia, you’ve missed one of the Mediterranean’s
most delightful spots. The seductive, minimalist curves of the Hotel Lone are utterly
distinctive, yet somehow appropriate for this spot. They evoke an ocean-going liner,
dedicated to catering to your every need.
Curving away from the coastline in a distinctive Y-shape, all 248 rooms offer views of the
island-speckled coast. Delicate wafts of locally grown rosemary, lavender and olive oil tempt
you into the Mediterranean-inspired wellness spa, while the open-plan lobby – bedecked in
mirrors and cool white stones – allows the outstanding natural beauty of the surrounding
area to flood inside. It’s rare to find such a sympathetic melding of nature and technology.
This is one hotel we would definitely like to spend more time in.
All aboard the spa!
A spa on board a boat – water baths inside a vessel, riding on
water. That’s got to be a novel take on spa locations!
Anchored at the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal, Bota Bota,
spa-sur-l’eau offers passengers the healing benefits of a spa
coupled with the natural lulling movements of the St Lawrence
River. The ship once operated as a ferryboat between Sorel and
Berthier Quebec during the 1950s and 1960s, followed by a
stint as a Richelieu River showboat. It has now been completely
refurbished into a day spa, featuring five decks fitted with
various spa installations.
Lufthansa flying high
on biofuel
The German flag carrier has launched
the world’s first scheduled flights using
biofuel, commencing a six-month trial
of a 50/50 mix of regular fuel and
biosynthetic kerosene on a four times
daily Airbus A321 service between
Hamburg and Frankfurt.
Originating from a sustainable supply
and production process, the hybrid
fuel can be used in all jet types without
modifications to the aircraft.
