Four
Seasons
Resort
Langkawi, Malaysia
The grandeur of the property is immediately evident the moment you enter the resort’s
sweeping drive, defined by imposing five-metre high Ayuthia and rich red-coloured rock
walls. Hidden beyond is a property worthy of the acclaimed brand, built between jagged
limestone cliffs and the emerald blue waters of the Andaman. Designed by acclaimed
architect Lek Bunnag, the Four Seasons is a resort that seamlessly manages to blend
Asian, Indian and Arabic influences to create a uniquely Malaysian milieu, enhanced by
very clever and unique design details that both reveal and complement the remarkable
setting. Throughout the resort, the views are framed by portals of various shapes and
sizes. Curvy Moghul Indian-style windows throughout the lobby look onto massive
ponds surrounded by gardens of bougainvillea. Frangipani and hibiscus are used to
frame one of the many meandering pathways of reclaimed railway ties, strewn with fire
pots. Moorish arches and warm-hued terrazzo baths transform bathrooms into private
hamams. Marble inlays turn private pool cabanas into decadent oases. Set beside one
and a half kilometres of wide, white sandy beach, the resort’s proximity to the sea is
mirrored in the numerous water elements incorporated into the overall design.
