To tower above the competition amongst the world’s most exceptional hotel chains is
no mean feat. Stand-out contenders are those that attempt the slick combination of
unbelievable degrees of customer service mixed with the most lavish surroundings at
every turn.
On our travels we have found only a handful of international hotel brands that deliver
on this promise each and every time – the St. Regis, Ritz Carlton and One & Only. But
there is one top chain that we haven’t reviewed to date: the Four Seasons.
This is a hotel chain with a reputation for understated elegance, without the labyrinth
of sweeping staircases, massive foyer atriums and five marble variants all mixed into
one execution. Four Seasons is all about subtle design cues and less of the fussy.
Classical styles fused with a touch of local flavour.
Mindful of its opulent reputation we headed off to sample first hand the Four Seasons
Hotel, Hong Kong. Our arrival into Hong Kong was late in the evening after a long
flight via Sydney on Virgin Atlantic Airways. The mood was set for luxury as we were
collected from the airport by one of the hotel’s limos, and as we entered the hotel this
