Mrs. Heintzman
Crystal Apple Award Winner
Blanchet art teacher Mrs.
Heintzman was named
a 2011 Crystal Apple Award
winner, one of just ten superb
educators in Salem to receive
this prestigious honor. Each
year the Salem Area Chamber
of Commerce, in collaboration
with Salem-Keizer Public Schools,
and the Salem-Keizer Education
Foundation awards the Crystal
Apple to educators who have
made significant contributions in
the lives of children.
In letters nominating Mrs.
Heintzman for this award,
Blanchet parent Mary Belleque
commented, “Mrs. Heintzman is
loved, valued and admired not
only by her present students,
but by faculty, former students,
parents and the entire Blanchet
community. She is truly one of
Blanchet’s treasures.”
Colleague Kasey Roberts wrote,
“Mary is able to pull the very
best from the rawest of talent.
Her students feel that she
connects with them individually
and is able to steer them in the
direction of their interests.”
In addition to her 28 years as
an educator, Mrs. Heintzman
has dedicated countless hours
outside of the classroom to
community projects including
directing the Eco-Earth project in
Salem’s Riverfront Park.
