Show focused on cars
dating from the 1930’s
to current 2012 that have

owners idea of a dream
vehicle.
Looking at some
of the cars from the
1930’s- 40’s-50s-60’s
being rebuilt to its glory
years and looking like a
BRAND NEW CAR its
just amazing to the years
and labor that the owners
have done.
While many attending
the show and in their ages
of 60 to whatever were

also reminders that some
of them owned cars back
then when no one thought
about keeping them and
just selling them or trade
in for new cars.
One of the more

A disturbing

in
some Calgary junior
high schools called
“scooping” and involves
inappropriate touching
between boys and girls.
The urban dictionary
defines “scooping” as the
grabbing of a girl’s breast
or genitals.
According to some
Calgary teens it happens
all the time, especially
among the younger
students.
“I don’t think the boys
realize the severity of it,”
said one teen.
“They do it as a joke,
as a game, but really it
is more serious,” said
another.
Serious enough that at
one Calgary junior high
school several students
were disciplined.
In this recent incident
charges were not laid,
however, Sgt. Duane
Lepchuk says police were
notified.
“It was handled at
the school level and
we’re confident on their
actions,” he said.

“Protecting Refugees”: Expediency and Efficiency

prolific Minister of
Immigration this country
has seen. Love him or hate
him, he has fundamentally
transformed his
Department. Euphemistic
legislative titles like
the “Balanced Refugee
Reform Act” and
“Protecting Canada’s
Immigration System
Act” have but one object
and purpose – to elevate
expediency and efficiency
as the paramount
considerations in
immigration and refugee
policy. It is true that
reforms are necessary.
Canada should not be
receiving more refugee
claims from Europe than
from Africa or Asia;
given the constraints
imposed by the Supreme
Court, everyone that
claims refugee protection
is granted a hearing.
However, in his zeal to
crack down on “bogus”
refugee claimants, Mr.
Kenney may inadvertently
harm legitimate claims.
Jason Kenney has already
commented on refugee
claims from Mexico and
it appears that Mexico
will be designated as a
“safe country” which
means refugee claimants
from that country will
have their claim heard in
45 days and be removed
much faster.
The reality is that
Mexico is not a safe
country and is in the
midst of massive internal
conflict due to power drug
cartels that control large
parts of the country.
The new time
constraints imposed on
every refugee claimant
make it very unlikely
that the most vulnerable
– those suffering from
PTSD or other severe
mental or sexual trauma
– will have a full and
fair hearing before the
re-constituted Refugee
Protection Division. The
new legislation aims to
have refugee claims (other
than those from “safe
countries”) heard within
60 days. Individuals
suffering from serious
trauma will undoubtedly
be prejudiced with such
short time frames.
Even those refugee
claimants that are not
suffering mental or
physical trauma will have
an uphill battle to win their
refugee claim in Jason
Kenney’s new regime.
New refugee claimants
will have a very short
period of time to meet,
retain and instruct legal
counsel and prepare their
case, including evidence
for their hearing.
Unfortunately, given
the tight timeframes for
new refugee claimants, it
is likely that, we will deny
protection to those that
deserve it most. Fairness
should not be sacrificed
on the altar of efficiency,
expediency and cost.

Spaghetti
with Shrimp
Adobo a La Norteña
Ingredients
1 pound cooked spaghetti
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound shrimp, peeled
and deveined
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon crushed red
pepper flakes
2 cups of tomato sauce
1 cup white wine
1/4 cup fresh basil,
chopped
Directions:
1. Season the shrimp with
salt. Heat the olive oil in a
sauce pan over mediumhigh
heat. Add the red
pepper flakes and shrimp.
Cook for one minute, stir
and keep cooking, about
1minute more.
2. Add the tomato sauce
and wine. Cook for about
8 minutes. Add the fresh
basil. Season to taste.
3. Toss the pasta with the
sauce and serve.
Brochette
de ave
Ingredientes:
250 Gramos de Pierna de cerdo
2 Ají panca molido
2 Ají mirasol molido
2 Limones
3 Cucharadas de Vinagre de vino tinto
3 Cucharadas de Aceite
4 Hojas de Lechuga escarola
Preparacion:
Limpiar el exceso de grasa de la carne
y cortarla en trozos de no más de 1cm.
Marinarla con la panca molida, el ají
mirasol molido, vinagre y sal. Dejar
oreando la carne por un pr de oras.
Sancochar las papas blancas al vapor o
en agua. Pelarlas y reservar.
Cocinar el arroz con un poco de ajos
molidos sofritos en aceite.
Sellar la carne en una olla con un poco
de aceite; agregar la marinada.
Salsa Criolla:
Cortar la cebolla roja en plumas finas,
y lavar con agua fría. Picar el ají limo
en cuadrados pequeños.
Unir estos dos con jugo de limón, sal,
culantro picado y un poquito de aceite
Apple, Cheese and Honey Tart
Aji De Aguacate
Ingredientes
Carne de medio pollo
sin piel; 16 repollitos de
Bruselas grandes; 1/2
ají verde; 1 ají morrón;
2 tomates peritas; jugo
de limón, sal y pimienta.

Preparación:
Cortar cada pechuga
en cubos. Hervir los
repollitos en abundante
cantidad de agua salada.
Cortar los ajíes en
trozos y los tomates en
cuartos. Ensartar estos
alimentos alternándolos
en palitos de brochettes
alternando los colores.
Rociar con jugo de limón,
salpimentar y cocinar en
el grill o parrilla hasta
que la carne se dore.
Ingredients:
1 sheet frozen puff pastry
1 cup cream cheese at
room temperature
1 cup queso fresco or (feta
cheese), crumble
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon ground
cinnamon
2 apples, peeled and sliced
1 beaten egg
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the
puff pastry on the baking sheet. Mix the cream and feta
cheese in a small bowl. Spread the cream cheese mixture
on top of the pastry, leaving about 1 inch border.
3. Place the apple slices on top of the cheese. Add
cinnamon and honey. Brush the edge of the tart with
the egg.
4. Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until the pastry is
golden brown. Serve it with a green salad on the side.
Ingredientes:

2 Tallos de cebolla larga
1 Aguacate grande y maduro
Aji natural o de frasco
Sal al gusto
2 Huevos cocidos (duros)
Preparacion:
Pique finamente la cebolla, el tomate y los huevos.
Con un tenedor maje perfectamente el aguacate e
incorporelo a lo anterior.
Añada el ají y la sal al gusto.
Si no lo va a comer inmediatamente, deje la pepa del
aguacate adentro y rocíele un poquitito de agua.
