The 97th Annual General Meeting was held at the Activity Suites this year due to the
ongoing A&A works at the Recreation Complex. It was an intimate event for the 150
members who attended the meeting at the smaller venue, as the Auditorium (future
ballroom) was under renovation.
On behalf of the Chairman, Club Captain Mr Nicholas Lim called the meeting to order as
he read the Standing Orders for the day and highlighted the presence of the Club’s legal
advisor, interpreter, appointed auditors and the consultants for the redevelopment project.
The meeting was informed that all positions in the Management
Committee and Disciplinary Panel were unopposed.
In his opening address, Club President Mr Edwin Lee
thanked the members for attending the general meeting and
highlighted the factors that contributed to the operating deficit
of $730,632 for the FY2011. Although the result was better
than the budgeted deficit of $2.82 million, Mr Lee assured
that the Management Committee would remain committed
to find viable solutions to contain operating expenses as
well as explore ways to generate additional revenue for the
Club. Mr Lee ended his speech with heartfelt gratitude to
fellow committee members for their dedication and support
in transforming CSC into a premier club and also thanked all
members for their unfailing faith and support.
On the agenda of the meeting were 3 proposed resolutions in relation to the Club’s Constitution and 1 resolution on
Phase 3 of the redevelopment project.
Following Mr Lee’s address, Chairman of Redevelopment Committee, Mr Victor Chia provided an update on Phase 3
of the Redevelopment Project and the reasons for the proposed resolution for an additional amount of $700,000 over
the approved $11 million sum for Phase 3 redevelopment project. Mr Chia explained the need for members to approve
6
the proposed resolution so that the ongoing work could be completed as planned and the various enhancement work
to facilities could be carried out. Mr Chia emphasised that the additional amount would not draw down further on
the Club’s reserves. After some discussion, the resolution was approved and adopted by the majority of the Voting
Members present.
After a sumptuous buffet lunch, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Constitution Committee, Mr Lee Chiwi presented and explained
the rationale for the amendments to the various articles in the Constitution. Amongst the proposed amendments were
the compulsory registration of spouse and child as Spouse Member and Child Member. The new rule shall apply to
members who joined the Club after 28 April 2013. Members were invited to partake in the discussion and the relevant
articles were put to a vote. Members approved and adopted the amendments, saved for Articles 6.3, 6.4, 6.5 and 6.6.
A member, Mr Dale Lee proposed an amendment to Article 5.5(c) to include transfer of membership to grandchild
without the payment of transfer fee. The members approved and adopted the resolution as proposed.
This was followed by a proposal by Mr Edmund Choo to insert a new Article 3(d) to the Objects of the Club to
promote honesty and loyalty. The resolution was not approved by the voting Members present. All amendments to the
Constitution are subject to the approval of the Registrar of Societies. Until such time, the various amendments cannot
be implemented.
As there were no other queries received, the Club President thanked all members for their participation and support.
The meeting was adjourned at 3.05pm.
For details of the meeting, the unconfirmed minutes of the 97th Annual General Meeting have been mailed to all
members.
“A memorable afternoon filled with
flowers, colours and elegance”
There is no better way to proclaim one’s love and affection for one’s mother, the Queen of hearts, than presenting
her with a uniquely hand crafted fascinator. An encouraging attendance of 80 participants including the club
President, Mr Edwin Lee, watched on as reputable floral designer, Edwin Pereira, transformed plain hairband, hair
slide, cake and hat into elegant pieces of floral “art” on Saturday, 12 May 2012 at the Activity Suites.
before the demonstration, the ladies and their guests tucked into a sumptuous Tunch spread of petite international
fare while they sip on bubbly champagne.
carefully attaching the beautiful embellishments and feathers to the fascinator base and hair band, it was a
heartwarming session of bonding for mothers, daughters and the family during the hands-on section of the
demonstration.
6 very creative winners of the Best Decorated Fascinators each also walked away with Edwin Pereira’s floral creation.
WYNDHAM WINE
PAIRING DINNER By Michelle Ng
Dazzle with wyndham
george wyndham, the father of Aussie shiraz, must
have devised a winning formula when he decided to
plant the first shiraz vineyard down under. Members
and guests at the wine pairing event enjoyed a
delectable time of wine appreciation with intimate
discussion on wyndham’s wines with mr rajan
menon, senior manager of Public relations and
brand Ambassador of Pernod ricard.
28
The dairy concoction within the cheese Tortellini in basil
cream might seem a tad overwhelming for the wines, but
it was undeniably a fantastic union with the sweet, fruity
and spearmint overtones of the shiraz cabernet 2006.
The next course was apparently a diva within a sea of
dark cherry and ripe berry flavours as the delighted
diners savoured on halibut Fillet wrapped with iberico
ham paired with the robust shiraz grenache 2007.
what the ages represent, how whisky is best
conducted by brand Ambassador mr rajan
MATTERS
OF THE HEART
WOW
[ Heart Attacks ] Also known as Myocardial Infarction, are caused by a
blockage that stops the blood flow to the heart.
Report shows that 15 Singaporeans lost their lives to Cardiovascular
Disease or stroke everyday.
What Are Heart Attacks And Their Occurrence?
Heart attacks happen when blood flow is severely reduced or cut off
completely due to artery blood clot or arterial plaque. The blood clot
will caused oxygen deprivation which causes part of the heart muscle
to die.
Some Tips To A Heart-Healthy Life
Control Obesity
- Include at least 40 minutes of daily workouts (remember to
start with 10minutes of warm up exercise). Have a brisk walk
in the park or climb the stairs instead of taking the lift.
Know What You Eat
- Keep to a low sodium and sugar intake.
- Choose low fat and cholesterol food.
- Consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, soy products, beans
and legumes.
- Adopt a high fibre diet (soluble fibres such as vegetables are
especially beneficial as they help lower cholesterol).
- Have small meals instead of a big full meal (This also helps
to boost metabolism rates).
Quit Smoking
- Smokers have 2 to 3 times
higher risks as compared
to non-smokers.
Reduce Stress
Let down your hair and chase away the blues with a visit to the
Flex gym. Our fun-loving fitness instructors will be there for you.
Alternatively, take part in the plethora of Lifestyle programs such as
the MBSR (Mind Balance Stress Reduction), Yoga, or even Dancing!
