Canta al mar 2015 – Festival Coral Internacional October 21 – 25, 2015 | Calella/Barcelona, Spain Due to the great enthusiasm among the choral scene regarding the new festival Canta al mar 2012 INTERKULTUR will ensure that Calella will become the meeting place for choirs from all over the world on a yearly basis. Thus also in 2015 from Oct. 21 to 25. In general applies that the fantastic metropolis Barcelona will be an attractive part of this festival. Either as venue for the competition and friendship concerts or simply as destination for a day trip. 3.5 kilometres of sandy beach as well as its location directly at the Mediterranean Sea and close to Barcelona make Calella a popular European travel destination. During the choir festival numerous friendship concerts will take place in the contemplative old town with its Catalan flair. All concert and competition venues as well as accommodations and other event locations in Calella are situated within walking distance. Thus attending concerts and other events can be combined perfectly with a placid stroll through the historic old town. Here choirs will meet, celebrate and sing together and get to know other nations and their traditions. Mixed, male, female, children’s and youth choirs can participate in the competition in established categories and different levels of difficulty. Special attention is given to the categories “Folklore“ and “Pop“. No category will require compulsory pieces so that all participating choirs can choose an appropriate repertoire and perform in front of the jury without major restrictions. Juvenil de Barnsley, un 250-fuerte coro mixto<br />

de su comunidad en el norte de Inglaterra,<br />

Mathew ha experimentado un éxito significativo<br />

en la competencia internacion<strong>al</strong>, y<br />

más recientemente, ganaron tres primeros<br />

premios en los <strong>2015</strong> Juegos Coro de Europa y<br />

El Gran Premio de Naciones.<br />

Los principios conductores de Mathew se basan<br />

Gram<strong>mar</strong> School en Wakefield como<br />

Como profesor de colegio segundario, su enseñanza<br />

excepcion<strong>al</strong> fue reconocida a principios<br />

de su carrera cuando fue g<strong>al</strong>ardonado<br />

con el prestigioso estatus de Maestro con Habilidades<br />

Avanzadas. Desde entonces, ha ido<br />

a trabajar como consejero de música especi<strong>al</strong>izada<br />

para las escuelas, mejorando los estándares<br />

de la zona y dando conferencias en universidades.<br />

Mathew es t<strong>al</strong>entoso compositor<br />

y arreglista y ha llevado coros de jóvenes en<br />

muchos grandes proyectos que incluyen una<br />

comisión que fue cantada por 8500 niños. Ha<br />

ganado varios premios por su music<strong>al</strong>idad y<br />

destacada contribución a la comunidad.<br />

As Music<strong>al</strong> Director and founder of Barnsley<br />

Youth Choir, a 250-strong mixed community<br />

choir in the North of England, Mathew has<br />

experienced significant success in internation<strong>al</strong><br />

competition, most recently being awarded<br />

3 first prizes in the <strong>2015</strong> European Choir<br />

Games and Grand Prix of Nations.<br />

Mathew’s conducting principles are based<br />

on the renowned Kod<strong>al</strong>y technique and he<br />

works closely with the choirs from the Kod<strong>al</strong>y<br />

School in Hungary, leading workshops and<br />

facilitating exchanges. Mathew’s training<br />

began when he was awarded a Music Scholarship<br />

to attend Queen Elizabeth Gram<strong>mar</strong><br />

School in Wakefield as a member of the Cathedr<strong>al</strong><br />

Choir, performing throughout Europe.<br />

As a school teacher his outstanding teaching<br />

was recognised early in his career when he<br />

was awarded the prestigious Advanced Skills<br />

Teacher status. Since then, he has gone on to<br />

work as a speci<strong>al</strong>ist music advisor for schools,<br />

improving standards in the area and lecturing<br />

at Universities. Mathew is a t<strong>al</strong>ented<br />

composer and arranger and has led massed<br />

choirs of young people in large projects including<br />

a commission that was sung by 8500<br />

children. He has won a number of awards for<br />

his musicianship and outstanding contribution<br />

to the community.
