LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Before choosing what articles to write, talent to showcase
and trends to highlight, the right title had to be chosen.
The title of any issue or book is one of the single most
important decisions to make. The title sets the tone for the
voice of the issue and gives readers an expectation of the
content covered. During the season, the title ‘Fall Fashion’
is synonymous on covers of fashion magazines on any
newsstand near you.
Uncommon Threads: 10th
Annevsary of fashionART
We began with the question , “What makes the fall season
the most important season for fashion?” More advertisers
invest, fall/winter trends are showcased, fall begins retailers
4th quarter push, magazines print the most articles of
clothing for fall/winter than spring/summer, the biggest
fashion shows are presented, and high end and designers
releasing their lookbooks are just a few examples of what
makes this season so important.
Every emerging professional should take notice of these
factors that could help you maximize this time to further
your position in the fashion industry. Designers, take heed
to the advice given by Jeanne Allen (Money Matters: Life
After Design School, p.54) of the importance of monetizing
your artistry. Fashion-tech innovators like Deepa Sood of
CUFF Jewelry (p.34), find inspiration in developing a way
to connect fashion & technology without alienating your
sense of style in the article on the emerging CEO.
Mobile app companies (FashionTap, p.12) are making
the mark and influencing how the fashion industry are
meeting the ever changing & demanding needs of fashion
consumers. The Business of Fall Fashion is all about what
makes this time the most important season of the year.
