Die Dom- und Kaiserstadt Fritzlar: Ihre Entstehung geht auf
eine Kirchen- und Klostergründung durch Bonifatius zurück.
The cathedral and imperial town of Fritzlar: the original
church and monastery was founded by Bonifatius.
The rural district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has about
156,000 residents and is home to a good 10,000 businesses
belonging to the CIC. Industry is the main branch
of the economy, accounting for around 34 percent of the
jobs. Together with three major companies on the heating
and air-conditioning sector, rubber processing and healthcare,
the business landscape is dominated by many
medium-sized firms involved among others with metal
processing, the timber industry and plastics technology.
Diemelstadt also gives the district a top logistics location.
The sustainable, stable economic power of the rural
district is generated by its extreme branch diversity and
its commitment to training and qualification. Waldeck-
Frankenberg has the highest training rate in the Chamber
district. For more than 70 years, the Timber Academy Bad
Wildungen, one of the leading centres of excellence and
innovation in Europe’s timber industry, has been training
the next generation of skilled workers. The two independent
vocational colleges with sites in Bad Wildungen and
Frankenberg (Hans Viessmann School) and in Korbach and
Bad Arolsen (Vocational Colleges Korbach – Bad Arolsen)
warrant a high standard of initial and further vocational
training.
Werra-Meißner-Kreis
The smallest district in the Chamber district, the Werra-
Meißner-Kreis, is located in the north east of the CIC district
Kassel-Marburg. A good 100,000 people live in a region
of charming countryside covering a surface area of
around 1,000 square kilometres. There are 16 towns and
villages between the river Losse in the west and river
Werra in the east. At the heart of the district we find the
Hoher Meißner hill at a good 753 metres above sea level,
which even offers skiing in snowy winters.
The region offers lots of attractive leisure activities, with excellent
hiking and cycling trails together with possibilities
for water sports. Active tourism is therefore increasingly
important for the district. Here we find vibrant, attractive
half-timbered towns and villages, including Witzenhausen
and Eschwege directly on the river Werra, whose pretty
town centres attract visitors to come shopping. The small
spa town of Bad Sooden-Allendorf with its old graduation
tower and the Werratal-Therme pool and leisure centre attracts
many guests and not just those receiving treatment
in the sanatoriums.
