Model code is being amended <strong>to</strong> carry<br />

forward the current <strong>2010</strong> <strong>CBC</strong> minimum<br />

width of 144 inches and minimum length<br />

of 216 inches for van spaces with the<br />

option of a standard width accessible<br />

parking space with a 96 inch minimum<br />

width aisle.<br />

Current <strong>2010</strong> <strong>CBC</strong> provisions allowing<br />

van parking spaces <strong>to</strong> be grouped on one<br />

level within a multi-s<strong>to</strong>ry parking facility<br />

are included within the model code.<br />

Current <strong>2010</strong> <strong>CBC</strong> provisions for marking<br />

access aisles have been included by<br />

amendment.<br />

Current <strong>2010</strong> <strong>CBC</strong> provisions requiring<br />

access aisle for van spaces <strong>to</strong> be on the<br />

passenger side have been included by<br />

amendment.<br />

Current <strong>2010</strong> <strong>CBC</strong> requirement that a<br />

person with a disability need not walk or<br />

wheel behind any vehicle other than their<br />

own is implemented by model code<br />

language requiring access aisles <strong>to</strong><br />

adjoin an accessible route.<br />

The Unreasonable Hardship exceptions for<br />

specific situations are replaced by<br />

provisions for technical infeasibility and an<br />

unreasonable hardship for path of travel<br />

improvements. These exceptions must be<br />

developed by the applicant on a case-bycase<br />

basis for submission <strong>to</strong> the enforcing<br />

authority for its consideration and, if<br />

approved, documentation <strong>to</strong> its file.<br />
