This term is about asking and giving directions and booking a hotel room. Topics in chapters 3 & 4 from Pasos 1 (3rd or 4th edition course book, Hodder Education). From 7 January 309sp SPANISH - Improvers Level 2 Wednesday 9 meetings 7.00–9.00 pm Tutor: Lucia Salvatierra £67.50, £17 We´ll cover topics like arranging meetings, accepting and refusing invitations, buying tickets, ask and give advice and talk about future plans. All these and more are the topics in chapters 9 and 10 from Pasos 1 (3rd or 4th edition, Hodder Education). From 6 January 407sp SPANISH - Intermediate Level 2 Thursday 8 meetings 9.30-11.00 am Tutor: Rosy Wesson £45, £11.25 In this course we will continue practising conversation skills in different verb tenses including the Imperfect, as well as improving grammar and culture knowledge. Advanced Level 2 Friday 8 meetings 11.15 am–12.45 pm Tutor: Rosy Wesson £45, £11.25 This will be a recap year where we will carry on developing fluency by conversing about everyday life in all tenses (including present subjunctive), and improving grammatical aspects in Spanish. Course book: Pasos 2 by Hodder and Arnold. From 15 January LATE START 406sp SPANISH - Improvers Level 2 Thursday 8 meetings 11.15-12.45 pm Tutor: Rosy Wesson £45, £11.25 This course will continue learning about everyday conversational Spanish, including grammar points and verb tenses in present, past and future. 503sp LATIN AND GREEK LATIN Improvers Friday 9 meetings 10-12 noon Tutor: Rosemary King £67.50, £17 Latin- the language of Virgil and Ovid, but also of the Latin Mass, Gregorian chant and the Vulgatethe version of the Bible which informed our culture for 1000 years. This continuing class for nearbeginners is based on the textbook The Cambridge Latin Course, Book 2, but we shall be looking at other texts and inscriptions. Anyone who has reached Stage 12 of the Cambridge Latin course, or whose Latin is a bit rusty are very welcome to join us this term. From 8 January 408sp LATIN Intermediate Thursday 9 meetings 1.30–3.30 pm Tutor: Rosemary King £67.50, £17 This course is for students who have already done some Latin- perhaps many years ago. We are working in a fairly leisurely way through the Cambridge Latin Course, and expect to be starting near the beginning of Book IVA, Stage 41 or so. In addition to this, we use the Internet and other resources to study medieval manuscripts, old documents, tombstones, and other interesting materials, some discovered by students. We have recently been trying to solve the Latin Crosswords published each Saturday in the Times newspaper. New students with some knowledge of Latin are very welcome to join us: we are a very friendly group. From 7 January 207sp NEW TESTAMENT GREEK Tuesday 9 meetings 1.30-3.30 pm Tutor: John King £23.50, No Concessions This is a friendly group that meets to read and discuss the original Greek texts from the Old and New Testaments and other related documents. New members with some knowledge of Greek are most welcome. From 5 January LATIN READING GROUP Tuesday 9 meetings 7.00-9.00 pm This group meets in members houses to read and discuss passages from Roman literature in the original, Virgil, Catullus, Ovid and Tacitus for example, plus some later Latin and some inscriptions and manuscripts.
