THY KINGDOM COME session 3 35
Award-winning novelist Ann Patchett once said,
“Never be so focused on what you’re looking for
that you overlook the thing you actually find.”
“THE KINGDOM OF GOD HAS COME NEAR. REPENT
AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS!”
Mark 1:15
This would have been a great reminder for the Jewish people
during Jesus’ day, because they were so consumed of their
idea of what a king should be that most of them totally
missed it when He actually showed up! Jesus came as God
in the flesh and brought the kingdom of heaven with him,
but the Jews were looking for a military leader, a warrior,
and a person of wealth and standing who could restore the
glory days of King David. They were so focused on this idea
that they overlooked the very normal-looking man from the
little backwoods town of Nazareth.
Fortunately, Jesus spent much of his ministry teaching those
who would listen about the real kingdom—one built with
love and truth instead of stones and weapons. Today we’ll
learn more about what it means for the kingdom to arrive
in our midst. At times we might feel just as confused as the
original hearers of this message—but now, at least, we are
focusing on the right things!
