THY KINGDOM COME session 3 35<br />

Award-winning novelist Ann Patchett once said,<br />

“Never be so focused on what you’re looking for<br />

that you overlook the thing you actually find.”<br />

“THE KINGDOM OF GOD HAS COME NEAR. REPENT<br />

AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS!”<br />

Mark 1:15<br />

This would have been a great reminder for the Jewish people<br />

during Jesus’ day, because they were so consumed of their<br />

idea of what a king should be that most of them totally<br />

missed it when He actually showed up! Jesus came as God<br />

in the flesh and brought the kingdom of heaven with him,<br />

but the Jews were looking for a military leader, a warrior,<br />

and a person of wealth and standing who could restore the<br />

glory days of King David. They were so focused on this idea<br />

that they overlooked the very normal-looking man from the<br />

little backwoods town of Nazareth.<br />

Fortunately, Jesus spent much of his ministry teaching those<br />

who would listen about the real kingdom—one built with<br />

love and truth instead of stones and weapons. Today we’ll<br />

learn more about what it means for the kingdom to arrive<br />

in our midst. At times we might feel just as confused as the<br />

original hearers of this message—but now, at least, we are<br />

focusing on the right things!<br />
