50 Shades of Blue
Mile High Blues Society
This Denver duo’s music will tear
you apart and put you back together
again. Having played together
for years in a blues band,
Christine Webb and Jim “Doc”
Seely launched a duo act, 50
Shades of Blue, to bring a new
voice to their music and reach a
broader audience. Audiences are
consistently intrigued because the
duo’s appearance doesn’t match
their sound or expectations of how
blues players look. Yet Webb’s
soulful vocals and solid bass playing,
combined with Seely’s rippin’
acoustic, slide, and electric guitar
work, transports the listener
from back-porch country jams,
flavored with wood smoke and
barbecue, to gritty urban corner
bars filled with spirits and loss.
Adrian Duke and
Theresa Richmond
Central Virginia
Blues Society
Adrian Duke is a piano player/
singer/songwriter steeped deeply
in the New Orleans blues tradition,
and Theresa Richmond a
seasoned gospel singer drawn
into the blues through their friendship
and musical collaboration.
The combination of Duke’s New
Orleans blues and Richmond’s
Southern gospel roots makes
for a surprising yet natural fit.
Duke’s raw, unprocessed vocals
and Crescent City piano are perfectly
balanced against Richmond’s
blast-furnace delivery and
sassy grace. Together the duo
have been collaborating for over
a decade, performing and writing
songs that best complement their
special chemistry in the blues.
Alonzo Pennington
and Michael Gough
Kentuckiana Blues Society
Two of western Kentucky’s most
celebrated blues musicians, Michael
Gough and Alonzo Pennington,
have been making music
together since 2006. Both front
their own bands but make the
time to schedule several dates
each year performing as a duo
or as two parts of a collaborative
group called ZoGo. Pennington,
an up-and-coming guitar virtuoso,
is a world-class thumb picker with
national and international titles
among his awards and accomplishments.
Gough is a well-seasoned
veteran with 41 years making
music professionally; he dates his
first paying gig back to the age of
19. You will most definitely want
to make this soulful blues duo a
part of your 2016 IBC experience.
Amays and Blue
Kalamazoo Valley
Blues Association
Alex Mays and Eddie “Blue” Lester
team up to meld their personal
styles into a unique sound
that pleases the ear and covers
the spectrum of blues music. The
smooth blend of Lester’s sax and
Mays’ acoustic guitar creates a
warmth and energy. Amays and
Blue’s sound is a blend of original
and tasteful covers of roots, Deltastyle,
jump, and smooth jazzy
blues music molded by the personalities
and expressions of the
two players. Mays and Lester bring
their individual voices and musical
sensibilities to the table in an
intriguing, perfectly blended performance.
The show picks you up
and moves you through the various
moods and colors of the blues.
