Thank you, Mr. Chairman, for joining us once
again for our Chat With the Chairman feature.
The first question for you, sir, centers around
the resignation of recently-appointed president
Brad Bentley and in the words of the late, great
Yogi Berra “it’s dÉjÀ vu all over again.” Talk to
us about what TCA leadership is doing to find the
right long-term leadership.
Well, let me start off by thanking Brad Bentley. Brad
was a tireless, passionate worker. He did a great job
as the voice and the face of the Truckload Carriers Association.
We wish him great success in future endeavors.
Immediately after Brad’s resignation, a Selection
Committee was appointed which includes Robert Low,
Tommy Hodges, Past Chairman Shepard Dunn, First
Vice Chairman Russell Stubbs, Second Vice Chairman
Dan Doran, Mike Eggleton Jr. and of course the committee
chair, which is myself. As far as selecting the
new president the Search Committee has been very,
very busy. We have personally reached out and talked
to a number of excellent candidates and the process is
moving forward. We are making sure not to rush the
process just to fill the position. We are absolutely going
to select the right person to lead this association in the
future. At the time of this interview, we have approximately
40 resumés that we are gleaning through and
we have a number of other recommended individuals
and we expect resumés from them also. Without giving
you an exact timetable, the work of this committee is
carrying on. I’m very excited about the talent on this
committee and we will come up with the person that
will effectively lead the vision of the Truckload Carriers
Association.
In the interim, TCA is certainly in more-than-capable
hands. Talk about the confidence you have in the
leadership of the organization, such as Debbie
Sparks and Bill Giroux, who we recently featured
in Truckload Authority.
Micah, a lot of us make the mistake of painting
most people in the Washington, D.C., area with the
same broad brush, saying they don’t have the same
work ethic as those of us in the private sector and that
they don’t have the passion that most of us share.
I can personally testify this is not the case with the
staff of the TCA led by Bill Giroux and Debbie Sparks.
