Homage to Dr. Abdul Kalam
The recent demise of “Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam” has left us spell bound. He
was a great politician, author, professor, administrator and a scientist.
The missile man of India. An individual with great determination who led our country
during his tenure of Presidency.
You cannot find many who excel brilliantly in many fields, at the same time, all throughout
staying humble and true to the end. APJ Abdul Kalam was one of them. It is hard to believe
that a youngster who started off as a newspaper boy grew up to occupy the highest office
in the country.
India’s “Missile Man”, as he was dubbed in the popular press, Abdul Kalam was a rocket
scientist who rose to prominence as the head of the country’s successful civilian space
and missile defense programs.
Kalam, when elected president, disregarded its customary ceremonial role and reached
out to ordinary people, particularly the youth, of which all consider him as their role
model and inspiration.
The shock of his untimely death left us bereaved. To commemorate his extraordinary, yet
simple life, we at Silver Oaks School sang the song that we had written and composed for
him earlier when he came visiting us in Hyderabad. Through it, we sang of our love and
respect, keeping him alive through its heart-touching lyrics.
Leela Ma’am had penned its lyrics. The song was aired on various channels, including
CNN-IBN live, with our music and dance teacher,John Sir, Ranjani Ma’am and a couple
of students. His wise words, ‘Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter
whatever ups and downs you come across in your life,’ will never be forgotten.
