A Message from Governor Shane Meagher Florida Key Clubbers, I recently attended Circle K District Convention and had the pleasure of seeing their work this year, along with their elections, and retirement. This got me thinking -- what are my plans next year? This lead to a panic about college decisions, careers, and everything life, as I'm sure you can all relate. But I took a second and thought about something more in the moment. The fact that I, along with my fellow District Board members, and club officers, will be retiring in about a month. It seems like just yesterday I was getting committees together, first meeting the District Board, and picking my senior year classes (which are quite sparse). As they say, time flies when you are having fun. From the moment I heard the election results, to now, when I am typing this message, I have been having a blast. The definition of fun in this case is a bit different from its textbook definition. This year has been full of success, and struggle, good times, and bad times, but each has been filled with the loving presence of my fellow Key Clubbers. I truly believe you all are what kept me going so strong this year. Referring back to an earlier topic that I portrayed as anxiety inducing is our futures. We do have to consider what we will be doing in the days, weeks, months and years to come. I find it so important because I know that we are all capable of being so great. Why else would we be in Key Club? And why are we even in Key Club in the first place? The simple answer-- we care. I want each of you to take this care and apply it to the decisions you make, and the different paths you take in your lives. I also urge you to be what you want to be, and pursue a career you want to pursue. We hear so often how important money is, and that we must make our decisions based on what will put the most money in the bank, but I can assure you how much more important love is. You don't only love people, you love activities, you love places, you love yourself. When we encounter a less fortunate citizen during a service project, we cannot necessarily give them the money to get back on their feet, but we can show them someone loves them. The only thing that makes us human is our ability to feel emotions. Think how special they are, how much more exclusive they are than pieces of paper that say "$1," or "$100." We can print money as much as we please, but as hard as we try we cannot create emotions at will. In closing, look to your future. What will you love? Who will you love? Whose life will you change with your everyday actions? How will you make a difference in our increasingly divisive world? Ask these questions as you grow and mature, and I am sure we will all meet in a better society in the future. See you at DCON, Governor Shane Meagher 4
