Nu Omicron Celebrates 45th Annual Que-Festival “Purple Tie” Ball<br />

Queens, NY. May 16, 2015. The Nu Omicron Chapter of Queens NY<br />

hosted its 45th Semi Annual Que-Festival (Quefest) Dinner Dance at the<br />

LaGuardia Airport Marriott in Queens.<br />

The proceeds from the event benefit the chapter scholarship and philanthropy<br />

efforts. It was attended by almost 200 brothers, their spouses,<br />

friends and dignitaries.<br />

The event was hosted by comedian and Omega Man Mike Britt (Xi Phi,<br />

Harlem Spr. 90). Mike B as he is also known. He has performed all over<br />

the world as well has headline with the Bad Boys of Comedy. He can<br />

currently be seen in episodes of Netflix’s “The Unbreakable Kimmie<br />

Schmidt”.<br />

They keynote speaker of the event was Councilman, Bro. Robert Cornegy<br />

of Brooklyn (Alpha Upsilon/Brooklyn Spr.’07). He addressed several key<br />

issues facing the black community today. Cornegy, a NY native, played<br />

for St. Johns University’s basketball team in the 80s.<br />

The Renegade Band out of Queens performed throughout the dinner, and<br />

DJs Oskeeno and NP3 (Bros. Orville Martin, Omicron Iota, Fall ‘11 and<br />

Bro. Nate Patillo, Zeta Psi Spr. ’02 respectively).<br />

The chairman, Bro. Rob Stevens’ (Gamma Epsilon, Spr. ’90) goal was to<br />

capture the essence of NYC by adding the city flare with comedy, Live<br />

Jazz and R&B, Live DJ’s to round out the night. All while bringing brothers<br />

together from all chapters in the area. In addition, Nu Omicron acknowledged<br />

brothers celebrating their 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 year anniversaries<br />

with certificates from the chapter. Brothers from over 10 chapters<br />

(and sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.) nationwide were present<br />

to celebrate their Silver Anniversaries. Nu Omicron chapter also gave a<br />

special recognition to Corridor V Rep. Bro. Kevin Woodhouse (Nu Psi,<br />

Virginia St.) who celebrated 40 years in the fraternity. Then the brothers<br />

presented Bro. Ron McCain (Gamma Epsilon, Spr. ’65) who celebrated<br />

his 50th Anniversary in Omega with a special award. Bro McCain He is<br />

currently in Kappa Omicron Chapter in Harlem/Bronx.<br />

Several vendors were at the event including Traci Lynn Jewelers rep.<br />

Dana Thornbourne, and Donors such as Saks Fifth Ave. donated some<br />

wonderful gift bags. “Hopefully next year we can build on this event my<br />

making it a series of events like the “Quefest” used to be during its inception<br />

and early years.” Says Bro. Stevens<br />

New York, NY. November 29 2014. The Brothers of Nu Omicron Chapter<br />

of NY hosted its second “BLAQ SATURDAY: a New ThanksQiving<br />

Tradition” Day- Party. It was held at Redemption NYC (Sportsbar), in<br />

midtown Manhattan from 6-10PM<br />

The event was attended by various chapters of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,<br />

Inc. in the metro NYC area and as well as surrounding areas. In addition,<br />

it was attended by various other organizations, family and friends.<br />

Proceeds from the event went toward Nu Omicron’s work in the Queens<br />

community and it’s Early Childhood Education Center. This includes<br />

helping providing scholarships for high school seniors, funding future<br />

events, community service projects, and other philanthropic efforts.<br />
