Tau Pi’s Bro. John Brown Induced to Benedict College Hall of Fame<br />
Bro. John R. Brown<br />
Columbia SC. October 15, 2015. Bro.John R. Brown was inducted into<br />
the Benedict College Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 15, 2015 at the Double<br />
Tree by Hilton, 2100 Bush River Road in Columbia, SC. A Hall of Fame<br />
college tennis player, he. is an accomplished technologist, entrepreneur,<br />
business consultant and speaker. He is founder of JR Brown & Associates,<br />
LLC, a business consulting firm that focuses on small technology<br />
company’s growth strategies. His leadership, consulting and business<br />

experience is based upon over 40 years with a major corporation and<br />
government. He has lead multiple organizations specializing in business<br />
and product development, program management, and strategic planning<br />
in field of electronic systems. John has over 25 years in young adult mentoring<br />
and leadership coaching, both in the church, colleges and universities,<br />
business and STEM programs. Mr. Brown has also demonstrated his<br />
commitment to challenges facing small minority-owned companies by<br />
providing innovative growth strategies.<br />
Bro. Brown graduated from Benedict College, with a Bachelor of Science<br />
in Mathematics and Physics. He earned his Masters of Administrative<br />
Science in Management from Johns Hopkins University. He also holds<br />
a certificate of Executive Leadership education from UCLA Anderson<br />
School of Management. Prior to starting his own company, he had a long<br />
and success career with Westinghouse Electric and Northrop Grumman<br />
Corporations.<br />
Bro. Brown is a passionate and committed leader who has given his time<br />
and energy helping education institutions, civic and business entities fulfill<br />
their vision by serving on numerous boards. Some of these boards include<br />
Advisory Board for Amos Tuck School of Business MBE programs<br />
at Dartmouth College, the Bowie State University, College of Business<br />
and Entrepreneurship Academy Council, and the Howard County (Maryland)<br />
Economic Development Council. He has held membership in several<br />
professional organizations including, American Management Association,<br />
American Society of Manufacturing Engineer, and Society of Black<br />
Engineer. He is also a life member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.<br />

this year’s Howard County Community Action Council (CAC)<br />
Thanksgiving Turkey distribution event held on November 24, 2015 with<br />
the purchase of 9 full Turkey Dinner boxes. These dinner boxes were<br />
distributed to pre-selected families whose sons participate in the Chapter<br />
Mentorship program that takes place at Guilford Elementary School located<br />
in Columbia, MD. The chapter has established a strong relationship<br />
with Bita Dayhoff, President of CAC, over the years and supports several<br />
other CAC programs throughout the year.<br />
The Thanksgiving Turkey distribution event is held annually by CAC for<br />
eligible Howard County families and this year’s event was provided in<br />
partnership with Wegmans and their “Care for Hunger “campaign. The<br />
distribution took place at St. John Baptist Church, 9055 Tamar Drive,<br />

Columbia, MD and supported eligible Howard County families who receive<br />
a turkey and other food items such as yams, apples, green beans,<br />
potatoes, cranberry sauce, and stuffing mix. 100% of the funds raised are<br />
used to help Howard County families who are food insecure<br />
This program is well supported by Tau Pi Brothers, Maryland State Delegate<br />
Frank Turner. Bro. Turner, a Democrat has worked in the State<br />
House since 1995. Supporting and spearheading the effort is Tau Pi Social<br />
Action Chair, Bro. U. Michael Currie.<br />
Bro. Jerry Watkins loaded the nine Turkey Dinners into his vehicle and<br />
delivered to Guilford ES Coordinator Tanya Holland. Ms. Holland and<br />
assistant Wanda McDonald coordinated the pick up by the families.<br />
This year, as shown in the picture, are Howard County Executive Alan<br />
Kittleman, State Delegate Guy Guzzone and Councilwoman Mary Sigaty.<br />
