Later Christian traditions describe Philip as the apostle who preached in Greece, Syria, and<br />

Phrygia.<br />

We see the implication of this cross cultural upbringing.<br />

The Calling<br />

Philip was one of the first evangelists; as soon as Jesus called him, he went to find his friend<br />

Nathanael.<br />

The Gospel of John describes Philip's calling as a disciple of Jesus.<br />

Joh 1:43 On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus<br />

saith unto him, Follow me.<br />

Joh 1:44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.<br />

Joh 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the<br />

law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.<br />

Joh 1:46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith<br />

unto him, Come and see.<br />

He was from Bethsaida the same town Peter and Andrew and also James and John.<br />

Gospels, Philip figures most prominently in the Gospel of John.<br />

Of the four<br />

The very next day of the call of James and John, Jesus calls Philip. They were all probably friends<br />

and people who were serious about the Biblical studies and of the mesianic hope. They all most<br />

likely attended the same synagogue and were members of the same bible study<br />

group. Were they all disciples of John? Most probably. The fourth Gospel says that, after being<br />

called by Jesus, Philip meets with Nathanael and tells him: "We have found him of whom Moses in
