22 Confederations<br />
1.<br />
Member associations that belong to the same continent have formed the<br />
following confederations, which are recognised by <strong>FIFA</strong>:<br />
a) Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol – CONMEBOL<br />
b) Asian Football Confederation – AFC<br />
c) Union des associations européennes de football – UEFA<br />
d) Confédération Africaine de Football – CAF<br />
e) Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association<br />
Football – CONCACAF<br />
f) Oceania Football Confederation – OFC<br />
Recognition of each confederation by <strong>FIFA</strong> entails full mutual respect of each<br />
other’s authority within their respective institutional areas of competence as<br />
set forth in these Statutes.<br />
2.<br />
<strong>FIFA</strong> may, in exceptional circumstances, authorise a confederation to grant<br />
membership to an association that belongs geographically to another<br />
continent and is not affiliated to the confederation on that continent. The<br />
opinion of the confederation concerned geographically shall be obtained.<br />
3.<br />
Each confederation shall have the following rights and obligations:<br />
a) to comply with and enforce compliance with the Statutes, regulations and<br />
decisions of <strong>FIFA</strong>;<br />
b) to work closely with <strong>FIFA</strong> in every domain so as to achieve the objectives<br />
stipulated in art. 2 and to organise international competitions;<br />
c) to organise its own interclub competitions, in compliance with the<br />
international match calendar;
