4 Definitions<br />
The terms given below denote the following:<br />
1 <strong>FIFA</strong>: “Fédération Internationale de Football Association”.<br />
2 Association: a football association recognised as such by <strong>FIFA</strong>. It is a<br />
member of <strong>FIFA</strong>, unless a different meaning is evident from the context.<br />
3 League: an organisation that is subordinate to an association.<br />
4 British associations: the four associations in the United Kingdom – The<br />
Football Association, The Scottish Football Association, The Football<br />
Association of Wales and The Irish Football Association (Northern Ireland).<br />
5 The IFAB: The International Football Association Board (IFAB).<br />
6 Country: an independent state recognised by the international community.<br />
7 Confederation: a group of associations recognised by <strong>FIFA</strong> that belong to<br />
the same continent (or assimilable geographic region).<br />
8 Congress: the supreme and legislative body of <strong>FIFA</strong>.<br />
9 Council: the strategic and oversight body of <strong>FIFA</strong>.<br />
10 Bureau of the Council: the bureau of the Council as defined in art. 38 of<br />
these Statutes.<br />
11 Laws of the Game: the laws of association football issued by The IFAB in<br />
accordance with art. 7 of these Statutes.<br />
12 Member association: an association that has been admitted into<br />
membership of <strong>FIFA</strong> by the Congress.<br />
13 Official: any board member (including the members of the Council),<br />
committee member, referee and assistant referee, coach, trainer and any<br />
other person responsible for technical, medical and administrative matters<br />
in <strong>FIFA</strong>, a confederation, a member association, a league or a club as well as<br />
all other persons obliged to comply with the <strong>FIFA</strong> Statutes (except players<br />
and intermediaries).
