Student Development
Student Development integrates faith, learning and living
into the academic experience of our students through cocurricular
programs, activities and services. Further
information on student services and Student Development
can be found in the Student Handbook.
Spiritual Development
We intentionally seek to help students develop their
Christian faith through
Chapel worship services;
one-on-one time with the campus chaplain;
Community Days;
spiritual retreats;
prayer retreats;
residence floor meetings and small groups.
Residence
The Ambrose Residence program is an integral part of
the Ambrose experience. Residence offers an
environment that seeks to facilitate physical,
emotional, relational, and spiritual growth. The
connections formed among students in residence
often result in life-long friendships. Our live-in
Residence Directors and Residence Assistants provide
support for students to make the transition from
home to independent living. Our two Ambrose
Residence buildings have the capacity to house 242
students in single, double, and triple occupancy
rooms, only minutes away from our academic
building. Rooms are equipped with a bed, desk, chair
and closet space for each student. A bathroom is
shared between four to five students, and each floor
contains a private lounge space equipped with
couches, two refrigerators, a kitchen sink, cabinets,
and a microwave. The residences were built with
safety and security in mind and boast programmable
proximity card access systems, security cameras in
the public areas, and glassed stairwells with 24-hour
lighting. The residence basement offers students
computers, recreational space, laundry facilities,
student storage, a media room, and a kitchen that
can be reserved for special occasions.
Career Services
Career Services assists students as they navigate the
career planning process and the college-to-career
transition. Services include providing students with
standardized career assessments to explore program and
career fit as well as the opportunity for life and career
coaching. The college to career (C2C) transition is made
easier as students’ progress through 13 transitional tasks,
some of which include; assessment for personal branding,
portfolio/resume development, networking and
experiential learning. A number of career development
events are offered throughout the year to help students
prepare for this transition. The Director of Career
Development is available to students on a drop-in or
appointment basis and is eager to support student
success.
Athletics
Ambrose University varsity teams compete under the
name “Ambrose Lions.” The team colors are black, gold,
and white. Ambrose Lions compete in the Alberta Colleges
Athletic Conference (ACAC) in Volleyball, Basketball and
Futsal. There is also a club hockey team that competes in
the Calgary Adult Hockey league and a cross-country club
team that competes as guests in many ACAC meets. Team
members are committed to excellence in character, sport
and academics and strive to be examples in the league and
community.
There is a Fitness Centre and Squash Courts on campus
that are available to all students and intramural
programming that takes place throughout the
year. Students are encouraged to cheer on the Lions in
their home gym, affectionately known as the “Lions Den”,
which is an on campus gymnasium that has capacity for
400 spectators.
International Students
It is our desire to make our international students’
transition to Calgary a positive experience.
International Student Employment
International students are now eligible to apply for work
permits if they meet specific degree requirements. See the
International Student Coordinator for details.
Health Insurance for International Students
Alberta has a publicly administered health care system
that guarantees Albertans receive universal access to
medically necessary hospital and medical services. Alberta
Health Care Insurance is free to all students with a study
permit. See the International Student Coordinator for
more details.
