of shows in early June that’ll take you back, with Frankie Avalon on<br />
June 3 and the Rat Pack tribute Cherry Poppin Daddies on June 4.<br />

From San Bernardino Wins Top Honor<br />
Sinfonia Mexicana Mariachi<br />
Youth Academy<br />
of San Bernardino was<br />
awarded 2nd place at the San<br />
Juan Capistrano 12th Annual<br />
“Battle of the Mariachi.” The<br />
Academy competed against<br />
10 top rated Mariachi Youth<br />
Groups from throughout<br />
California and Arizona. The<br />
San Bernardino group was the second most highly rated mariachi in<br />
the youth category and the best rated group from California.<br />
The performance to an audience of 4,000 people comes just one<br />
week after their Mother’s Day performance at Whitmer Auditorium at<br />
Colton High School.<br />
“We are very proud of our students who have worked very hard<br />
to prepare for this performance”, said Tony Bocanegra, the Executive<br />
Director. “These youth are goodwill ambassadors for the City of San<br />
Bernardino.” Oscar Tostado is the director of the Academy and Sinfonia<br />
Mexicana President, Maria Saenz is the assistant Director.<br />
The Academy is housed at Sturges Center for the Fine Arts and is partially<br />
funded by a grant from the San Bernardino Fine Arts Commission.<br />
The Mariachi Youth Academy, now in its 7th year, continues to provide<br />
students with a music education focused on mariachi music, and mentors<br />
students to excel academically and pursue a college education. IER<br />
