EVENT: JULY 9-10
Festival Celebrates The Native Lemon Lily
The Idyllwild Nature Center hosts the Lemon Lily Festival,
July 9-10 in Idyllwild, a small resort town nestled mile-high in
the San Jacinto mountain range and easily accessible from all
of Southern California.
The Nature Center has continued to host the Lemon Lily
festival each year since its inception. This year’s festival will be the
seventh annual and promises to be among the best! Special features
include folk music, pony rides, a children’s pioneer town, crafts and
vendors of all varieties, and two special guided hikes to see blooming
lemon lilies in the wild.
The Lemon Lily Festival was founded in 2009 by local businessman
Doug Yagaloff along with several botanists, business folk, and
the Idyllwild Garden Club who had a common vision of restoring
the Lemon Lily to its natural habitat in the San Jacinto Mountains.
This group enlisted the help of volunteers, the Idyllwild Nature
Center and the US Forest Service to make this vision a reality.
Their vision was distilled into the following Mission Statement:
“The mission of the Lemon Lily Festival is to foster an appreciation
for the threatened native Lily, Lillium parryi, educate the public of
its plight and relevance to Idyllwild, restore it to its historical range
and benefit Idyllwild economically by promoting it as a visitor
destination.”
Idyllwild Nature Center is located at 25225 Hwy 243 in beautiful
