Cedric Baggett,<br />

Class of 2015<br />

Billy Jepma,<br />

Class of 2015<br />

Veteran <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> fat<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> of two, Cedric Baggett came <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Jeffers<strong>on</strong> up<strong>on</strong> realizing that it was time for him <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

get his degree <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> start following his dreams. Cedric<br />

served seven years in the U.S. Navy <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> was employed<br />

in the wind energy field when he decided <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> pursue<br />

his dream of becoming a radio show host. Jeffers<strong>on</strong><br />

was the first step <strong>on</strong> his road <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> success.<br />

Cedric first moved <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Water<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wn <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be closer <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

family <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> from day <strong>on</strong>e Jeffers<strong>on</strong> was <strong>on</strong> his radar. In<br />

August of 2013 Cedric enrolled in the computer <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

informati<strong>on</strong> technology program, but by his sec<strong>on</strong>d<br />

semester he found a better fit studying humanities<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> social sciences. His English <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> business classes<br />

were am<strong>on</strong>g his favorites <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> he really began <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> feel<br />

like he was <strong>on</strong> the right path.<br />

Cedric’s involvement <strong>on</strong> campus is widespread.<br />

He served as Marketing Manager of the Student<br />

Government Associati<strong>on</strong> beginning in Spring of 2014<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> later went <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> become Student Government<br />

President. He has also completed all of the required<br />

goals for the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Society of Leadership <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Success <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> will be inducted in<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the society in the<br />

spring of 2016. Cedric also spent the summer of 2015<br />

interning at the local radio stati<strong>on</strong>, Tunes 92.5. His<br />

ultimate career goal is <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> become the number <strong>on</strong>e<br />

radio show host in America within ten years. Cedric<br />

will attend SUNY Plattsburgh <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> participate in their<br />

audio <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> radio producti<strong>on</strong> program. “I feel like I have<br />

the full support of JCC holding me <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>get<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>. I wouldn’t<br />

be <str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>e without JCC.” Cedric also credits much of his<br />

success <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Frank Doldo, Direc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r of Student Activities.<br />

He says, “Without the help of Frank Doldo I wouldn’t<br />

be the leader that I am, I wouldn’t be doing what I<br />

am doing <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> I would not be Student Government<br />

President.”<br />

Billy Jepma of Clay<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n came <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jeffers<strong>on</strong> in the Fall<br />

2014 semester with the intent of pursuing his love<br />

of writing. Now, having completed his degree in<br />

humanities <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> social sciences with a c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong><br />

in creative writing a full semester ahead of schedule,<br />

Billy is looking forward <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> his educati<strong>on</strong>al future, but<br />

also looking back <strong>on</strong> his great success at Jeffers<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Coming from a homeschool envir<strong>on</strong>ment meant<br />

that Jeffers<strong>on</strong> provided Billy with his first traditi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

classroom experience. Billy was pleasantly surprised<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> find that his instruc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs were everything he could<br />

have asked for. “The quality of the instruc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs was<br />

what not <strong>on</strong>ly attracted me <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jeffers<strong>on</strong>,” said Billy,<br />

“but they are also what kept me <str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>e.”<br />

During his time at Jeffers<strong>on</strong> Billy maintained an<br />

outst<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing grade point average <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> graduated<br />

in the Fall 2015 semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.<br />

He dedicated much of his time <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Cann<strong>on</strong>, the<br />

student run campus newspaper <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> was appointed<br />

edi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r in May 2015. Billy’s dedicati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> his academics<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> his resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Cann<strong>on</strong> did not go<br />

unnoticed by his peers, or his superiors. “Billy has<br />

outst<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing character,” says Andrea Pedrick, advisor<br />

of the student newspaper club. “As edi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r he focused<br />

<strong>on</strong> what needed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be d<strong>on</strong>e, he delegated the tasks,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> kept staff <strong>on</strong> track. It takes more than forty hours<br />

of work <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> get a paper ready <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> go <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the publis<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>.<br />

Edi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs balance life, college <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the paper. It’s not<br />

always an easy task. It’s basically like holding a<br />

full-time job <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>p of taking full-time classes.” Billy<br />

intends <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>tinue his educati<strong>on</strong> with focuses in<br />

creative writing <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> film producti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> is currently<br />

weighing his opti<strong>on</strong>s as <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> w<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>e his aspirati<strong>on</strong>s will<br />

take him.<br />
