Matthew Miller, 1988, joined NBT Bank as the<br />

Camillus branch manager. He previously served as<br />

branch manager at Citizens Bank <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> HSBC in the<br />

Syracuse area.<br />

2016 Distinguished Alumni & Hall of Fame Inductees<br />

Cerem<strong>on</strong>y <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be held August 4, 2016<br />

Each year the Alumni Associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Athletics Department celebrate the<br />

achievements of Jeffers<strong>on</strong> alumni <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> college supporters by h<strong>on</strong>oring a<br />

select number of nominees. More than 90 alumni have been h<strong>on</strong>ored as<br />

Distinguished Alumni since the program’s incepti<strong>on</strong> in 1989 <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 27<br />

inductees fill the Athletic Hall of Fame since its incepti<strong>on</strong> in 2009.<br />

Jeffers<strong>on</strong> Community College Distinguished Alumni h<strong>on</strong>ors are determined<br />

by a selecti<strong>on</strong> committee <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> are c<strong>on</strong>sidered in the following categories:<br />

• The Rising Star Award recognizes a graduate of the past fifteen<br />

years who is advancing in his/<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> career field.<br />

• The Professi<strong>on</strong>al Achievement Award recognizes a graduate who<br />

dem<strong>on</strong>strates ten years or more success in professi<strong>on</strong>al life <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

leadership within his/<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> professi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

• The Jeffers<strong>on</strong>ian Award recognizes a graduate who dem<strong>on</strong>strates<br />

a dedicati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> service <strong>on</strong> a local, state, nati<strong>on</strong>al, or internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

level.<br />

• The Community Service Award is given <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> a n<strong>on</strong>-alumna/us for<br />

service <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jeffers<strong>on</strong> Community College.<br />

• On occasi<strong>on</strong>, H<strong>on</strong>orary Alumni status is bes<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> acknowledge<br />

Mary Hughes-Hoisti<strong>on</strong>, 1996, was awarded the<br />

2015 Gerald DeGroot Award by the Alcohol <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Substance Abuse Services Community of Jeffers<strong>on</strong><br />

County. Mary is employed by Samaritan Medical<br />

Center as OASAS Program Coordina<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r in the<br />

Outpatient Addicti<strong>on</strong>s Clinic.<br />

Carly Sperati, 2000, has been named chief<br />

radiati<strong>on</strong> t<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>apist of Radiati<strong>on</strong> Oncology for the<br />

Cancer Center at the Mohawk Valley Health System.<br />

Carly was awarded the 2015 Outst<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing Allied<br />

Healthcare Professi<strong>on</strong>al Award, presented by the<br />

Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley Regi<strong>on</strong>. She<br />

earned <str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> associate degree in math <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> science<br />

from JCC <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> bachelor’s degree in Radiati<strong>on</strong><br />

T<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>apy from SUNY Upstate Medical University in<br />

Syracuse.<br />

Dr. Leilani Garcia, 2001, recently joined Carthage<br />

Area Hospital as a hospitalist. Dr. Garcia also earned<br />

a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University<br />

at Albany, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> a medical doc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rate degree from<br />

The American University of Antigua (AUA) College<br />

of Medicine in 2012. She completed three years of<br />

internal medicine residency within Pinnacle Heath<br />

Systems, Harrisburg, PA.<br />

Matthew H<strong>on</strong>eywell, 2002, has recently become<br />

certified as a Divisi<strong>on</strong> I <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> III Hockey Official.<br />

Matthew received a BA in Business Administrati<strong>on</strong><br />

from Oswego State University in 2004, an MBA from<br />

the University of Phoenix in 2009, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> is a branch<br />

manager for Community Bank.<br />

Joshua L. Biolsi, 2009, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> his business partner,<br />

Andrew J. Boulter, co-founded 3B Sports, which<br />

features ‘Bubble Soccer’. Participants play<br />

soccer while wrapped in huge bubble suits, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>urnaments, leagues <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> corporate team-building<br />

opportunities are growing.<br />

Morgan A. Ringer, 2012, established the business,<br />

It’s a Ringer, teaching painting classes. Morgan is<br />

the daughter of painter Michael Ringer <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> uses his<br />

works as inspirati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

Ashley Cap<strong>on</strong>e, 2014, has been instrumental<br />

in bringing SUNY Brockport’s volleyball team<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> great heights this past seas<strong>on</strong>. Ashley was<br />

a <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>p-performer at JCC, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> has carried that<br />

determinati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> skill <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> SUNY Brockport. Ashley<br />

played a major role in the teams’ undefeated<br />

SUNYAC Champi<strong>on</strong>ship <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> was named first team<br />

All-C<strong>on</strong>ference.<br />
