Jeffers<strong>on</strong> held a Pinning Cerem<strong>on</strong>y for<br />

weekend opti<strong>on</strong> graduates of the College’s<br />

nursing program <strong>on</strong> December 17, 2015 in<br />

the College’s Robert R. <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jean S. Sturtz<br />

Theater. Seven c<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>idates for the Associate<br />

in Applied <str<strong>on</strong>g>Science</str<strong>on</strong>g> (A.A.S.) degree in nursing<br />

were eligible <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> take part in this special<br />

program.<br />

opti<strong>on</strong>. In the past four years, 99% of JCC<br />

graduates have passed the NCLEX (Nati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

Council Licensure Examinati<strong>on</strong>) <strong>on</strong> their<br />

first attempt! JCC’s nursing program is accredited<br />

by the Accreditati<strong>on</strong> Commissi<strong>on</strong><br />

for Educati<strong>on</strong> in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN). At<br />

the c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong> of spring <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> fall semesters,<br />

students who successfully complete the<br />

nursing program at JCC are h<strong>on</strong>ored at an<br />

annual Pinning Cerem<strong>on</strong>y held in May <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Center for Community Studies<br />

C<strong>on</strong>ducts 1st Annual<br />

St. Lawrence County Survey<br />

In December, the Center for Community<br />

Studies at JCC released the findings of the<br />

1st Annual St. Lawrence County Survey of<br />

the Community. The primary goal of the<br />

survey is <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> collect data regarding quality<br />

of life issues of importance <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> local citizens.<br />

Working under the supervisi<strong>on</strong> of the Center’s<br />

research staff, JCC statistics students<br />

completed 442 teleph<strong>on</strong>e interviews <strong>on</strong><br />

both the l<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>line <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> cellular ph<strong>on</strong>es of St.<br />

Lawrence County adult residents during<br />

the evenings of June 29-30, 2015. A similar<br />

study has been completed annually by the<br />

Center in Jeffers<strong>on</strong> County since 2000, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

in Lewis County since 2007. For results of<br />

Jeri Fairman Appointed<br />

Liberal Arts<br />

Jeffers<strong>on</strong> welcomes Jeri Fairman <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the<br />

positi<strong>on</strong> of Associate Vice President (AVP) of<br />

Liberal Arts. Jeri joined Jeffers<strong>on</strong> in 1989 as<br />

a faculty member <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> advanced <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the rank<br />

of professor. In 2010, she served the college<br />

as Dean of Curriculum <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> in 2013, she<br />

was appointed the Dean for Instructi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

Support, Assessment <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Accreditati<strong>on</strong><br />

during academic restructuring. In 2001, she<br />

received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for<br />

Excellence in Teaching. She holds a bachelor’s<br />

degree <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> master’s degree from<br />

November. Robin E. Stephens<strong>on</strong>, advanced<br />

the 2015 Boots <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Business Instruc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r of<br />

the Year Award by the U.S. Small Business<br />

Administrati<strong>on</strong> (SBA).<br />

Out of 200 c<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>idates nati<strong>on</strong>wide, Robin<br />

transiti<strong>on</strong>ing military service members who<br />

choose <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> use their skills obtained in service<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> start a business. Robin presents the<br />

Boots <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Business program at Fort Drum <strong>on</strong><br />

a m<strong>on</strong>thly basis through the Soldier for Life<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Transiti<strong>on</strong> Assistance program. Prior <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

the Boots <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Business program, the SBDC<br />

offered a 3-hour entrepreneurship training<br />

seminar at Fort Drum. When the Boots<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Business program rolled out in 2013,<br />

Robin was able <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> make the transiti<strong>on</strong> go<br />

smoothly, allowing Fort Drum <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> have the<br />

new program go live more than a full year<br />

ahead of many ot<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g> locati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

“This is the sec<strong>on</strong>d time that the Water<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wn<br />

SBDC at JCC has received nati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

recogniti<strong>on</strong>,” says Eric F. C<strong>on</strong>stance, regi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

SBDC direc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r. “The first time was in 2010<br />

when we received <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>p h<strong>on</strong>ors as being the<br />

#1 SBDC in the nati<strong>on</strong> out of over 1,000<br />

SBDCs <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> then <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>day, Robin Stephens<strong>on</strong><br />

being selected as <strong>on</strong>e of the <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>p 5 instruc<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs<br />

across the nati<strong>on</strong>.”<br />
