The convenience of online shopping cannot be
overemphasized. The ability to buy anything ranging
from clothes, electronics and food via a click of a
button offers the most needed help for the modernday
individual who is too busy to find time to physically
visit a shop. Arguably, online shopping offers numerous
advantages but the real question is, is it really effective
for you? How do you make it work for you and prevent it
from being a nightmare as witnessed by other people?
There is a certain code of conduct for shopping online,
basically rules that guide on do’s and dont’s. We will
therefore look at critical areas you should scrutinize
in order to make your online shopping experience
worthwhile and effective.
4 HOW TO MAKE ONLINE SHOPPING EFFECTIVE FOR YOU
5 5
~ PASSWORDS AND CREDIT CARD
INFORMATION ~
It is a general rule to never share your passwords
with anyone. Additionally, you must ensure
that you use different passwords for different
sites and store this information in a secret
spot for reference. The logic behind this is the
fact that credit cards and online payments
services details are in some cases attached
to the vendor websites. Should you share your
password with anyone, they can use your
credit card information retrieved from your
account to make unauthorized purchases.
~ KEEP CHECKING ON BEST DISCOUNTS ~
Online shopping gives you the liberty to make
extensive price comparisons and ensure that
you only get the best deals. A wise shopper
always researches on different merchants selling
the target product at the best price. It should
be noted however, that the best deal is not only
reflected by price. There are other factors to
consider such as quality.
This rule also applies to your credit card
information, which must be kept as private
as possible and only reveal when necessary.
It is extremely prudent to always monitor your
credit card transaction details with your bank
in order to spot unauthorized use as soon as it
happens.
~ POLICIES ~
Online shoppers get disappointed especially
when a dispute is settled in an unexpected
manner. Most of the time, shoppers are at fault
for not reading merchant policies especially on
refunds and product returns. Some merchants
set a specific timeline for buyers to claim a
refund while others have a no-return policy on
already sold items.
~ SECURE WEBSITES ~
Money launders enjoy an open field of crime
via online shopping platforms. Shoppers are
advised to only use secured websites, whose
URLs start with https instead of http. Scammers
also post malicious adverts and circulate
them via emails which hackers use for their
phishing activities. You should ensure that
you only directly visit a merchant’s website,
update or fill in personal information within the
secure site and avoid clicking on emails from
unknown senders.
~ PLAY IT SAFE ~
Online transactions rely heavily on trusting an
unseen person as opposed to physically visiting
a shop. This means that chances of getting a
bad deal are higher than normal. There have
been cases of people who complained that
what they bought was not what they received.
Cash on Delivery (COD) option is therefore the
safest mode of payment because it allows you
to only pay for a product once you have seen it
and evaluated it.
Online shopping was established for your
convenience therefore you should make it
work for you. This however is not automatic and
requires you to put in effort in terms of research,
reading customer reviews and utilizing safe
practices that will make it effective for you.
HOW TO MAKE ONLINE FASHION SHOPPING PROMOEFFECTIVE FOR YOU
7
Konstantin did a once over
around the room to make sure he
wasn’t forgetting anything. The
library was on the other side of
campus. If he had to make multiple
trips, it would be incredibly
inconvenient. It was 8:30 p.m.
and the campus was quiet, serene.
It was cold but he preferred to
walk. He moseyed across campus
enjoying the views. Breathing in
the crisp night air, he thought of
how fond he’d grown of this place.
It was surprising that he dreaded
the idea of going back to California.
The traffic, the daily hustle and the
same type of people everywhere.
He’d grown to appreciate the
simpler approach to life here.
It had been a shock when he
first arrived but it became home
quickly. He loved having the option
of engaging in outdoor activities
without a two-hour commute.
Everything he needed was within
30 minutes of campus or less. Yes,
he was definitely going to miss it
here.
Most of the other students had
already gone into town to the
nearby bars and restaurants,
prepping themselves for the party
later. He was glad he decided to
stay in this evening. Konstantin
hardly regretted decisions he
made. Right or wrong, the outcome
of his choices often satisfied him.
He didn’t want to slack off as he
neared the end of his last semester.
He held himself to a very high
standard and wanted to begin the
law program with a running start.
As he neared the entrance of the
library, he noticed a sign that
read, “Due to renovations taking
place over the weekend, library
seating will be restricted to a
smaller area. We apologize for any
inconvenience.”
“They couldn’t have waited until
the semester ended?” he mumbled
to himself as he entered. Looking
around, he noticed they had
blocked off the majority of the
seating areas limiting him towards
the very back of the library. There
were only two tables available—
one near the window and one
closer to the restrooms. He opted
for the one near the window. It was
widely known that the table closest
to the restrooms quickly became
subjected to any foul odors that
wafted through the opening and
closing of the doors.
He opened his book bag and
proceeded to make himself
comfortable taking up the majority
of it with his books, notepads,
utensils, water and snacks. He
took out his headphones and
began listening to music while he
started in on his first textbook. He
was quickly engulfed and became
oblivious to anything happening
around him.
As Naomi made her way to the back
of the library, she wasn’t worried
about the seating restrictions.
She knew it would most likely be
empty. After all, how many losers
would be here studying while there
was a party going on—one she had
been excited to attend to let off
steam had it not been for her alarm
debacle. Missing half her class,
she knew she couldn’t afford to
fall behind nearing the end of the
semester.
She winced as she walked down
the steps into study lounge area.
Her knees were still bruised from
her tumble off the bike. Being that
there wouldn’t be many people
on campus, she was casually
clad in her grey sweat pants and
a black tank with her favorite
flannel hoodie. Her hair was in
loose, golden braids. She decided
to let her eyes rest and wear her
reading glasses. She didn’t have
any makeup on but her long dark
lashes made it impossible to tell.
The only beauty product she kept
close was her repair lip balm. Cold
weather made it nearly impossible
to keep her lips moist.
Glancing at the table options, she
noticed that some greedy bastard
had decided to take up the entire
table by the window. Irritated, she
fixed her posture and decided to
head straight for the part of the
table that hadn’t been occupied.
When she got closer, she began
to speak before realizing it was
Konstantin and nearly choked on
her words: “Hope you don’t mind
but I’m sitting here.” She bit her
lip, cursing herself for deciding to
grow a pair now of all times. After
all, she had made a complete fool
of herself in front of this man
just the day before. “Real smooth
Naomi,” she thought.
Konstantin hadn’t heard Naomi
with his headphones in, but he
saw a figure standing to his right.
Annoyed at this person hovering,
he whipped his head around,
“Yes?!”
Once his eyes fell on Naomi’s face,
he felt himself falter. He clumsily
removed a headphone, “Sorry, did
you need something from me?”
Naomi found herself trying to
remain stubborn and yet caught
off guard by Konstantin’s looks
and confidence that seemed to just
flow out from every fiber of his
being.
“I said, I hope you don’t mind my
sharing the table,” she softened
her words, relieved he hadn’t heard
her the first time.
“Not at all. Let me know if you need
more room,” Konstantin smiled at
her, surprised at the relief he felt
for having company.
While Naomi situated herself at the
table, Konstantin glanced at her
finding it difficult to concentrate.
She was dressed like she had just
rolled out of bed and threw on the
closest garments she could reach.
Her hair was falling out of two
messy braids and her glasses made
her look almost child-like. But he
couldn’t help but feel drawn to her.
When they’d made eye contact, he
swore she could see right through
him. The thought was unsettling
yet captivating.
A ROMANCE STORY
PART II
BRITE: A ROMANCE STORY | PART II
9
He shook his head and turned
up the music, trying to wall off
the unanticipated distraction of
Naomi. “Stay focused, K. This is the
wrong time to get hung up. You’re
leaving soon anyways.” He tried
pulling himself back to reality but
found himself wanting to know her.
Really know her.
Naomi couldn’t help but feel proud
of herself for keeping it together.
She dug into her chapters taking
notes and creating flash cards.
Engulfed in her reading, she was
oblivious to Konstantin who had
been glancing at her on and off
ever since she arrived. Every once
in a while, she would look out
the window and wonder what her
friends were up to. Not once did she
notice how flustered he was.
Konstantin finally removed his
headphones and went to the
restroom for a quick break. Maybe
he just needed to stretch his legs. He
couldn’t seem to get comfortable or
refocused on the task at hand ever
since she arrived.
Washing his hands, he looked at
himself in the mirror in frustration.
“What in the actual hell is your
problem?! She’s not even asking
to be looked at. Look at what she’s
wearing for crying out loud!” He
couldn’t help but laugh at how
ridiculous he was acting. “I guess
it has been a while,” he thought in
regards to the last girl he’d been
with.
He was a little perturbed that his
presence didn’t seem to have the
same effect on her. At least HE
looked nice. He was wearing a
pair of dark blue jeans with a long
sleeved grey shirt that showed off
his physique. He ran his fingers
through his hair and decided, what
the hell, he wanted to know what
this girl was about. She would
probably even welcome a break.
Konstantin walked around the
other side of the table and sat in the
seat directly across from Naomi.
He pulled the chair in and crossed
his arms across his chest (in his
comfortable defense position) and
asked, “So why aren’t you at the
party tonight?”
Naomi, startled, knocked her
glasses off and looked up at him
in surprise. Konstantin quickly
reached across to hand them to
her. She was looking him right
in the eyes again. He felt like she
had access to every secret, every
success, failure and unspoken word.
It scared him but it also made him
feel like he was home. He didn’t
want to lose her focus so he began
cleaning her glasses with the inside
of his shirt. He grinned at the look
on her face.
“Excuse me? Sorry, you don’t have
to do that. I just cleaned them before
I came here tonight.” She reached
over waiting for him to hand her
glasses over. When he looked at
her, she noticed a hint of hurt in
his eyes. “Thank you, I appreciate
the gesture,” she said quickly, not
wanting to seem unappreciative.
“Sure thing. So what are you doing
here tonight?” Konstantin was
enthralled with this woman. She
seemed independent and strong
but fragile at the same time. He was
curious as to what was going on
behind those eyes. He could usually
read people well, but couldn’t seem
to get a hold of what this girl was
about. He looked over her face.
Light, soft and the pinkest lips he’d
ever seen. Her eyes were a contrast
to her skin. Dark, thick lashes
framed her mysterious brown eyes.
She literally took his breath away.
“Oh….well, I missed half my class
yesterday and can’t afford to fall
behind. Not that I can’t afford it
in the sense that I’m doing poorly,
I just…. Well, I don’t want to slack
off. Not that I’m a slacker….” she
was flailing. Any ounce of control
she had over the conversation had
gone out the window along with
her dignity. “Sorry, I’m obviously
tired,” she smiled timidly, trying to
regain composure.
She didn’t even know why she was
flustered; it’s not like she liked him.
At all. She didn’t even know him
and what she did know so far, she
wasn’t exactly impressed. He was
the exact kind of guy she typically
stayed away from.
“I’m Konstantin Price.” He extended
his hand to shake hers.
“Naomi Brite,” she replied. When
he took Naomi’s hand, she instantly
felt safe, at home. She looked up at
him and quickly pulled her hand
away.
Her hand was soft and warm in his.
He found himself wondering if the
rest of her would feel the same. He
flashed her his most charming smile
and was relieved when she smiled
back before quickly withdrawing
her hand.
“I’m nearly finished here for the
night, would you want to get a
coffee?” he asked. Not ready to
leave her alone. He saw a pink flush
wash over her cheeks and enjoyed
having that effect on her.
“I still have quite a bit of reading
to catch up on, but thank you,” she
replied only being half honest.
She had about two chapters more
to read and realistically could catch
up on them in the morning. She
wasn’t thrilled with the thoughts
and feelings she had when they’d
shaken hands. She’d heard of his
reputation and knew that if she
wanted to keep her self-respect, he
would be the last guy she should
get involved with.
“Oh. Sure. Right. No worries,”
Konstantin felt rejected. Not
something he was used to feeling.
“Well, have a good night.”
He retreated and began packing his
bag to leave. He was more pissed
at how disappointed he felt that
she didn’t want to be around him.
Feeling embarrassed, he decided
she was a lost cause and decided to
head back to the dorm.
“Thank you, you too,” Naomi
hesitated feeling like she had
done something wrong. He almost
seemed angry with her.
She watched as he cleared his area
and left without even another
glance at her. Was he really so
arrogant that he threw fits when
he didn’t get his way? Naomi,
annoyed, texted Cyndi: “You won’t
believe what just happened!”
Knowing she probably wouldn’t
hear back for a while, she decided
to call it a night.
While walking back to the dorm,
she replayed what happened over
and over. She felt guilty for writing
him off so quickly. Maybe she had
him all wrong. It wasn’t like she
could fix it now, there was no way of
finding him or getting his number.
Besides, she wasn’t about to be
the one to cave or apologize. She
hadn’t even done anything wrong!
While showering, Konstantin
couldn’t help but replay Naomi’s
image in his head. Her eyes, her
soft skin, her pink pouty lips and
warm touch. Even though she
seemed to try and hide her figure,
he could tell she had curves he’d
like to explore. He splayed his
hands on the shower wall and let
the cool water wash over him. He
didn’t have time for this. Not now.
As much as he hated to admit this,
he knew deep down he wouldn’t be
able to shake this girl. What got to
him the most was how she made
him feel. Like who he was wasn’t
good enough. Like he wanted to be
better, do better. No one had ever
made him feel that way. Especially
not someone he’d just met.
The rest of the weekend seemed
to drag by. Colin talked Konstantin
into going out Sunday night,
telling him it would help him get
over Naomi’s unexpected arrival.
“Dude, this isn’t like you. Maybe
you just need a night out, a hot girl
and a good night’s sleep.” It was
always entertaining listening to
Colin’s thought process even when
it was completely ridiculous.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. I think
I’ve had too much on my plate
lately. I definitely need to unwind.”
Konstantin knew he needed to do
something to get himself back on
track. “Just a couple months and
you’ll be back in California. Keep it
together,” he coached himself.
The guys grabbed a cab and
headed into town. As they
approached the entrance of the
dance club, Konstantin allowed
his eyes to roam. He was in a
“I’d like to take this time to say thank you to all of the UR IT followers
who are reading my story. Your support is important and greatly
appreciated. My inspiration comes directly from the readers. I am
happy to share this journey of writing my first short story together.
I hope you continue to enjoy the story that unfolds between Naomi
and Konstantin.
There will be plenty of ups, downs and surprises coming up. It’s always
interesting when you think you really know someone only to find out
that maybe you never really did. The love story between Naomi and
Konstantin is an unlikely one from beginning to end. Think you have
them figured out? There’s onlyone way to find out, keep reading.”
- Jessica M.
different mode now. His ability to
compartmentalize work and play
was admirable even to him. Naomi
had filled his mind for long enough.
He was ready to put all of his efforts
into erasing her from his memory
and reward himself for all the hard
work he’d put in to getting into law
school.
Walking into the club, Konstantin’s
eyes were pulled straight into the
direction of a girl standing at the
bar with a fitted halter dress that
accentuated all the right areas. A
cascade of golden blonde hair fell
to her waist and her skin looked
soft even from this distance. He
hadn’t even seen the front of her
yet and knew she was going to be
his this evening.
As he got closer, the girl turned and
he stopped short. She was sipping
her drink from a straw and even
though she didn’t have her glasses
on, he’d remember those eyes and
lips from anywhere. His heart nearly
skipped a beat as a choked whisper
escaped his mouth, “Naomi.” What
the hell was he going to do now?
... to be continued...
Pansexual
What It Really Means
As we all heard fall of last year,
Miley Cyrus officially came
out as “pansexual.” With her crazy
style and antics, nothing surprises
us anymore. She changes her
appearance like we change our
underwear. But what exactly is a
pansexual? According to Huffington
Post, Miley is open to literally anything
that is consenting (male, female,
transgender, intersex) that does
not involve an animal and that is of
legal age. Basically, she is open to
any form of love, and is not biased
of the person willing to give it to her.
Does this make her less judgmental
of the human race or is she just one
without standards?
Miley isn’t alone with her sexuality,
as there are many other celebrities
who identify themselves as
pansexuals, too, including TV star
Jazz Jennings and rapper/singer
Angel Haze. Angel believes “love
is boundary-less” and that you can
find a connection with many types of
things and people. Every person is
capable of love and there are many
different kinds in the world. So, this
Valentine’s Day, consider this… are
we all a little pansexual?
How do you feel about your
body when you look at yourself
in a mirror? Do you like what you
see? Is it how you want to see
yourself in the mirror every day?
If they are not what you looking
for continue reading this article.
To build a better you, says a lot
just in just a few words. So much
that it seems like it’s impossible
to achieve. Thousands of men
and women struggle everyday
with issue like their body or their
hair falling out etc. Its life and
we have to take it by the horns
and push our way through it.
Getting older/health problems
isn’t any fun it more or less sucks.
Your body changes your hair
thins out and your feet somehow
get bigger. So many downs when
getting older that we forget to
find the positive sides to it. Even
though the body changes it is
something you can keep up on.
You health and improving your
life can be worked on. Want to
know how well?
Focus on what you like about yourself
Identifying your favorite features may help
you to develop a more positive outlook. Take
a few moments each day to look at yourself in
the mirror and identify your favorite features of
your body as well as overall person.
Eat differently
Yes it has been said over and
over a million times but its true
changing what you eat will help
in building a better you. Eat
less salt and fat its bad for the
body instead change it up and
eat more fruit and vegetables.
Try to eat five portions of fruit
and vegetables a day. Explore
new recipes with these types of
foods. You may find everything
you make is quite tasty.
Exercise regularly
The benefits of exercise aren’t
limited to losing weight. Even if
you’re slim, you’ll still get health
benefits from exercising. By
working out only 30 minutes a
day (yes everyday) helps the
heart body and mind. Makes
you feel better and over time
you will feel more motivated to
do more activities. Like biking or
hiking, walking, running, playing
more sports etc. So many things
change while doing this and it
does help build a better you.
Drink More Water
With all that activity another thing
you could try is to “Drink more
water”. Yes we all know that beer
and sugary drinks are wonderful
but they aren’t that good for
the body. Not saying that you
shouldn’t have a beer or two or a
soda with lunch I’m saying make
water the most important fluid
you put into your body.
All of these things work and
everyone should try them. The
struggle is real and most of us hide
from it. We don’t want to accept
the fact that we are growing
up and want to stay up all night
and sleep all day. We have to
take better care of ourselves and
make changes. It’s a process and
can’t be done overnight. Baby
steps one day at a time.
Improve your sleep
Nearly everyone has problems
sleeping at some point in their life.
Most healthy adults sleep for an
average of seven to nine hours a
night. If you’re not getting enough
sleep, it can affect relationships,
your performance at work, and
affect with helping you get better
when you’re sick.
The bedroom needs to be dark,
quiet, tidy, and smell fresh. Also
good-quality mattress and bed
frame will give you an extra hour
sleep... Your bedroom should be
for sleeping only and well sexual
activities. In order to build a better
body you must get sleep. Most
of us can’t sleep and we stay
up all night wondering why we
can’t fall asleep. Then we turn
to our electric devices due to
having something to do instead
of focusing on sleeping. Instead
grab a glass of water and return
back to bed.
Quit smoking
The health benefits of quitting
smoking are immediate. I have
read while researching bad
habits that after 20 minutes, your
blood pressure and pulse return
to normal. After 24 hours, your
lungs start to clear. After three
days you can breathe more
easily, and your energy increases.
Keep it up and you’re adding
years to your life. Doesn’t that
sound amazingly awesome and
well worth quitting smoking? With
myself never smoked I hear that
it’s a very bad habit to break. Yet
to building a better you I feel this
is a must do necessity.
Recap
So after taking the time to read
this you should have learned in
order to building a better you
that you must look at yourself
and find the positive in yourself
everyday instead of focusing
on the negative. Eat better
and drink more water. Exercise
everyday or do an activity
that counts as exercising for 30
minutes. Getting a good night’s
rest and eliminating electric
devices when you wake up
(trust me Facebook can wait
till morning) Lastly smoking,
you have to quit smoking. It
is bad for your health and all
the reasons in the world there
is nothing positive health wise
where its said that smoking is
good for you. Ditch that horrible
smelly habit and push forward
to building a better you.
I hope this article reaches out to
everyone that reads it cause we
are all meant to do great things
and starting with living longer
and being health is a great
starting point to becoming
something great.
Giving Up Wasted Wednesday
It’ s
the night
of your 21st birthday
and its finally here, your first
drink (legally that is). Everyone
looks forward to birthdays but for
some reason this one is at the top of
the list. Who doesn’t want to drop
loads of money into calorie filled
drinks to forget what happened by
the time the sun comes up. I’m
not here to judge by any means, I
understand how relaxing it feels
to go out for a night on the town
and to just let go. Those college
years of going out every day that
ends in a ‘y’ can be the best time of
your life, or so you think. Have you
ever stopped to look at that fine
line that separates social drinking
with friends from loosing complete
control? Saying ‘been there, done
that’ is an understatement. I spent
1 year of my life charging up my
credit card and binge drinking with
friends to create memories, just to
later realize that the only memory
I wanted to keep was the person
before I turned ‘legal.’ When you
are young the ‘bar scene’ looks
so enticing, everyone laughing,
drinking, dancing…it’s like an
infomercial for the best days of
your life. No one tells you the
feeling you get the day after, the
amount of time you spend at the
gym working those calories off, the
money that vanishes after three
drinks (where you probably should
have cut yourself off). Those little
things end up adding up to be the
big things, and sooner or later you
realize it’s not all it has cracked up
to be.
I’m sure you all have got that
priceless one liner from your
parents ‘you’re going out again,
didn’t you just go out last night.’ At
the time you probably rolled your
eyes, grabbed
your keys and were
on your way. Looking back,
I wish I had thought twice about
it. Did you ever stop to think that
maybe the reason people go out
to get so drunk to the point where
they spill their deepest secrets and
piled up emotions, is because they
are so unhappy with themselves
anything to numb that pain is
worth the money? I’m not saying
that every college kid who goes out
on the biggest drinking night of
the week is an alcoholic, nor am I
saying I was, but to think that the
only thing you look forward to is
getting so wasted that the next
morning your piecing together the
night before is alarming to say the
least. All it took was one morning
of looking into the mirror to realize
SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE.
I started working on myself and
getting back to the person I once
was. I changed the way I looked
at things and began trying new
experiences. I traveled, met new
people, worked out more, and most
of all opened my eyes. During
that year of drinking and partying
I lost sight of the most important
thing and that was myself. I started
spending more time with family,
something that as a child I was
all too familiar with but as I grew
older seemed to drift away from. At
first I noticed all the things I had
been missing during that year, but
then became thankful that I now
got to enjoy them again. I know
what you are thinking, ‘what a
homebody.’ But that’s not it at all,
I reconnected with my old friends
and learned that those who are
closest to you will just be happy
being around good company. We
started doing game nights, where
we occasionally would drink a glass
of wine, but it was different now.
It wasn’t drinking to get wasted; it
was just having a glass with friends
and limiting yourself. I’m not
trying to preach to you that
drinking is bad. I still go out
with friends and I still like
to have a good time. I’m in
my twenty’s, it’s not a crime
to want that. But somewhere
along the way I learned
what it means to have too
much and that it’s all right
to say ‘no’ every once in
awhile. Those memories
that I yearned to make
during those college years
of drinking, I made sitting in
a friends basement playing
board games till 2am. It’s not
always about where you are
spending your time, sometimes
it’s whom you are with. The best
part about that year of finding
myself is that I can remember
every single moment, mistake
and memory and I knew that it
was I making them. Not some
blurred image of myself who I
wasn’t even familiar with. Some
say that it’s just a process of
growing up, but as for myself I
think it giving yourself what you
deserve.
TIPS FROM FAITH GREATHOUSE
What is the difference between
crystal and diamond micro?
Dermab? Rasion?
The crystal microdermabrasion
technology involves the use of
a special, hand-held device that
propels a high-speed flow of
aluminum oxide crystals onto
the skin. At the same time, the
machine’s vacuum system sucks
away dirt, dead cells, uses crystals
and feels like sandblasting. The
diamond dermabrasion system, on
the other hand, replaces the microcrystal
flow with a disposable or
reusable diamond tip wand, and
feels more like sand papering.
Other than that, crystal-free
microdermabrasion works
in the same way traditional
microabrasion does.
Diamond microderm machines
usually come with tipped
wands of varied size and
coarseness for different
skin types and depths of
resurfacing. The wand tip
is made of natural diamond
chips which polish the skin
and remove dead cells, which
are then vacuumed back into a
waste filter.
Microdermabrasion Crystals
Aluminum oxide crystals have
been the most commonly used
abrasive agent for the last 20
years (no wonder they were so
popular in microdermabrasion).
Aluminum oxide is the second hardest
mineral (diamonds are first).
Sodium bicarbonate crystals are an
organic alternative to aluminum oxide
crystals but they are a lot softer and
less effective in microdermabrasion.
They are used on patients with
hyper-pigmentation and can be
easily washed off after treatment
(sodium bicarbonate is watersoluble).
FAITHFUL BEAUTY
In Asia, the favorite microderm
abrasion is a hydro microderm,
which infuses hyaluronic acid
or acne serums with water while
getting the same results. Those in
dry climates can surely benefit from
this as well!
Get to Know UR IT Model
Taylor
This month’s cover model,
Taylor, is from Greenville,
Ohio and has been sharing
her fierceness with UR IT
Magazine since….. Not
only has she done photo
shoots for the magazine,
but she was part of the Fall
2015 UR IT Fashion Show
in central Pennsylvania,
too!
She is taking her time,
but can’t wait to see what
is to come in her modeling
future. She shared with us
some tidbits about herself,
her experience with UR IT,
and other opportunities she
is taking in modeling.
UR IT – Tell us a little bit about
yourself — your family, education,
work, hobbies...anything!
Taylor - I am a home health care
provider for mentally disabled. I
model as work and as a hobby. I
am in school at Edison Community
College for Nursing. I love getting
opportunities to style hair and
makeup for other models. I listen
to music. I have a boyfriend I
absolutely love and have been with
for six years. I have many friends
I get to enjoy outings and dinner
parties with.
UR IT - What made you start
with UR IT, and what do you like
about it?
Taylor - I began working with UR IT
Magazine when I entered a contest
for the July 2015 back cover. I did
not win but got a photo shoot and
walked in the fashion show in the
fall. I liked the show very much and
got to show off six outfits! I like
that UR IT has been open-minded,
flexible and passionate about what
they do.
UR IT - What are your overall
goals with modeling?
Taylor - The ultimate goal would be
to find paid work because I feel I’m
worth it as a model. I don’t know if
I’ll decide to join an agency because
I like the freedom of working with
whomever I want and getting to
bring my ideas to life!
UR IT - Besides modeling for
UR IT Magazine, what are
some other opportunities
you’re taking?
Taylor - I’m working with a
wonderful group called Mora
Modeling in Greenville, Ohio.
My photographer, Tiffanie
Mora, has been by my side as
I’ve accomplished so much
this past year. Outside of
that, I am always doing personal
research and contacting designers
and photographers to further grow
my experience and portfolio.
UR IT - How would you say UR
IT has affected your path in life
and view of yourself?
Taylor - Absolutely changed the
view of myself. Once you get to see
your face in a magazine, it gives
you a confidence boost that you can
always do more.
UR IT – Do you have one overall
word of advice for women?
Taylor - My overall advice for
women out there is to harness your
ambition and go do something you
keep holding yourself back from.
Nothing great ever happens when
you hold back!
The
Unwanted
Good:
Ideally, when a woman is asked
to list top qualities that she
looks for in a man, intelligence,
kindness, loyalty, and sensitivity
will surface. On the contrary
though, these women will still
date and possibly marry men
possessing only 1% of their
desired traits.
Why Women
Are Not Interested
in Nice Guys
“ One is therefore left
wondering, why are
these good men bad? ”
We explore a few of
the reasons...
They Are Peacocks
The biggest problem about nice
guys is their annoying habit of
struggling to announce to every
girl that they are the best catch.
Women who have high self-esteem
and are looking to settle down
have left nice men, citing
bragging as their turn-off.
Confusingly though, when a
bad boy does this, it is seen
as attractive arrogance but
utterly unacceptable coming
from a nice guy. It seems part
of being nice is not blowing
one’s trumpet.
Women Need A
Mystery To Solve
Nice guys basically bare it
all for the woman, leaving
nothing mysterious for her
to dig. Simply listening
and showing interest in
what a woman says, is an
admirable quality. But
truth is, it only earns the
good guys a few brownie
points. This is a system that
a woman uses to calculate
how attractive a man is. The
more you earn, the more
she is driven towards falling
for you. Unfortunately
for these men, the juicy
part of this ‘interview’
is nonexistent because they
tend to do everything that the
woman wants. No drama, no love.
They Completely Forget The
Sexual Side
By virtue of being male and
female, the role of sex in such
relationships can never be
overemphasized. As a matter of
fact, for a relationship to happen
and be successful, there has to be
emotional and sexual attraction.
Nice guys are of the school of
thought that believes sex is
dehumanizing to humans, and tend
to be very shallow and shy on these
matters. To them, sex is a matter of
procreation and sexual chemistry
or vulgarity does not exist in their
world. This aspect sends even the
most innocent women running
into the open sexual arms of the
bad boy.
They Seem Hypocritical
No matter how deeply in love you
are, bad days are inevitable. Nice
guys will pretend to have a blast
even when the days are grim.
They do not show or share their
emotions leaving the woman
confused and bored. Have you
heard of women whom after a
problem with their partners, wish
that they saw a more aggressive
reaction? Sounds odd, but that’s
just women.
Doormats Are Not Sexy
As much as feminist campaigns
fight for people to cease calling
women the weaker sex, men
will still be viewed as the heads
of their homes. No woman
would really want a man who
agrees with everything she says.
The first and most important
reason she is in a relationship
is to have someone to discuss
pertinent matters with. Not
a clueless doormat! Women
seek their men’s opinions
for insight, not necessarily a
guaranteed ‘okay’. Otherwise,
women would just be single.
As seen nice guys are facing
fierce competition from bad
guys. Encouragingly though,
as much as these men finish
last, they finish best. This type
of men is trainable and can be
molded into what the woman
needs from a real man, as
opposed to the all-knowing,
self-sufficient macho man.
26 THE UNWANTED GOOD
GOOD GUY
THE UNWANTED GOOD
In her song ‘Mr.
Wrong’, Mary J.
Blige highlights a
woman’s dilemma.
At the beginning
of the song, Mary
says that bad boys
are not good, and
good boys are no
fun. She adds that
God knows that she
should run off with
the right one, and even
her family does not
understand why she is
so glued to that man.
The award-winning
singer goes ahead to say
that she and Mr. Wrong
get along so good, even
though he breaks her
heart so bad.
The
Bad Boy
Attraction:
Why Women
Are Still
Deeply Enticed
“ The big question
therefore is, why
can’t women just stop
loving the bad guys? ”
We explore a few of
the reasons...
Mending A Troubled Father-
Daughter Relationship
Fathers have been thought to only
affect the lives of their sons because
they directly mentor them into
adulthood and career development.
A study revealed that surprisingly,
fathers also play an intriguing and
extremely significant role
in their daughters’ lives.
The survey further revealed
that girls who had a close
emotional connection with
their fathers made wiser
decisions on marriage and
dating than those who did
not, consequently having
longer-lasting and fulfilling
marriages than their
counterparts.
Women who had distant
emotional relationships
with their fathers get into
relationships with bad
boys as a way to remedy
their inexistent fatherdaughter
relationship in
their childhood days. To
them, the extra testosterone
and macho characteristic
of bad boys is a significant
representation of masculinity.
The Urge To Change A
Wayward Man
Women are known to be
more patient and understanding
than men. For this reason, a
woman would knowingly get into
a romantic relationship with a
man, with a strong hope that she
will change him. Additionally,
a woman’s ego is significantly
boosted when she thinks and
knows that she had a strong
emotional grip on a man, which
could potentially change him.
The Need For Adventure
Women who have been good girls
and innocent all their lives and have
had extremely protective fathers
tend to love bad boys. They are
adventurous, exciting, daring and
mischievous, just the right recipe to
attract a smart and great woman. All
these women want is someone that
would scoff at the rules she spent
all her life adhering to.
Bad Boys Exude The
Masculinity Needed To
Trigger Reproduction
Gregory Louis Carter of the
University of Durham led a study
designed to understand this
confusing phenomenon by women.
After surveying 128 undergraduate
females, Carter and his team found
out that women loved men with
the Dark Triad personality traits
of machiavellism, narcissism and
psychopathy. It was revealed that
women are drawn to bad boys
due to their extreme masculinity,
which triggers short-term mating.
Their manipulation, flattery,
exploitation and prestige
seemed to greatly support
their sexual success.
Females Respond To
Emotions, Not Logic
Biologically, women are wired
to respond to less logic and
more emotions at a particular
moment. Therefore, women are
naturally drawn to situations
that stimulate their emotions.
Bad boys become a favorite
among women due to their
ability to create drama. A sweet
gentleman on the other hand
offers what the woman already
has in excess-emotions, paving
way for the cock sure cassanova.
Loving a bad boy is not really
bad depending on the kind
of bad boy you have. Women
should however be careful
because there is a very thin
line between a datable bad
boy and a bad boy to avoid at
all costs. For example, jailbirds
and trivial traffic offenders have
different levels of bad boy traits.
lines and hospitals. I was even on
the box of a Fisher Price toy piano.
But production work also intrigued
me. I started in college as a
production assistant for a TV show
called “Cell Dogs” on Animal Planet
and since then have worked on
numerous commercials, films and
reality shows including “America’s
Got Talent,” “The Voice” and my
favorite “The National Christmas
Tree Lighting.”
My goal has always been to work
professionally in entertainment and
I’ve been so lucky to do this on a
variety of platforms.
Other guest artists would include
Aloe Blacc, Fall Out Boy, Tori Kelly,
Crosby Stills and Nash and more.
The night before the lighting was
our big rehearsal. I was sitting in
the TV truck when I heard that, for
some reason, Reese would not be
coming in until the next day.
That was when opportunity struck.
I told the director I had experience
reading a teleprompter and would
love to stand in for Reese. The
suggestion was a long shot, but
somehow…it worked!
The next thing I know, I’m standing
backstage with the celebs and
everyone is introducing themselves.
I looked around and said, “I’m Jami!”
(As if anyone knew who “Jami” was.)
I never even had a chance to look
at a script before I was standing on
the back stage stairs with the stage
manager’s hand on my back: “OK,
go ahead,” she said.
I walked on stage to the little T
marked toward the front, looked
out into the bright lights and saw
the gigantic teleprompter begin to
scroll.
“Good evening and welcome to
President’s Park here in Washington,
for the 93rd annual National
Christmas Tree Lighting!”
Last year, Tom Hanks hosted the
lighting and it was incredible to meet
and work with him. When I learned
Reese Witherspoon would be hosting
this year, I was thrilled again.
The production set up is massive
and about a three-week endeavor.
Upon arrival, one of my first jobs
was to assist in the set up of Miss
Piggy’s dressing room. So fun!
JAMI KINTON: LIVING HER DREAMS
Suddenly I was in my element. I
began to smile, the hands started
moving and I never wanted the
evening to end. I recall wearing
my winter hat and jacket, but was
completely oblivious to the cold.
I got to introduce all of the
performers, including THE Miss
Piggy! The little bit I got to do with
her evoked my genuine laughter. I
was having the greatest time.
The show and my time on stage
ended that night with all of the
performers, along with Santa, on
stage dancing and singing the final
number. I stood right between Aloe
Blacc and Miss Piggy and danced
and sang right along with them.
Surreal.
The next day, I was headed into
President’s Park in the late morning
when I saw Reese pull up in a black
SUV out front and walk in right in
front of me, ready for the morning
rehearsal.
Oh, if only I could have done it
again! But what an unforgettable
experience! It’s incredible how fast
a door can open and opportunity
can strike, as long as you’re willing
to pursue it.
Always look for these moments.
I would have never had that
experience had I not have asked for
it that night. No one would have
offered it to me. Don’t be afraid to
speak up as the worst someone can
tell you is no.
The chance that someone says “Yes”
is worth the risk.
It certainly was for me
that night!
Tips for a fresh face:
for 2016
When showering, use a facial scrub to exfoliate
your skin once or twice a week (If you exfoliate
every day, it can be too harsh and your skin could dry
out). Exfoliating will help get the dirt and pull any
unwanted oils from pores. For every day cleansing, use
a more gentle face wash. There are face washes with
bursting beads that help your skin feel fresh and soft.
When wearing makeup, it is important to wash your
face before bed. Use makeup remover wipes or liquid
with a warm cloth to take off the makeup, then use an
evening face wash or just the daily face wash to wash
your face. This will allow your skin to breathe at night
and leave your face feeling fresh in the morning.
UR IT artists want you to know what is hot in
makeup! We looked at the New York Fashion
Week to find the 2016 makeup trends just
for you. Fresh, naked faces and bold lips are
the newest makeup trends.
Many of the models for the New York Fashion
Week had very little makeup with an accent
on their lips. UR IT found it is all about the
lips this year. Bright red, dark purples, soft
orange, and colors that accentuate your skin
color are the way to go. These models had a
natural shine on their faces as they walked
the runway. The all-natural look has been in
for awhile, but the faces of these models are
almost naked. Embrace your natural face, be
yourself completely; if you are happy, let the
world know it!
If you do not wear makeup every day, washing once in
the morning is sufficient because washing too much
could dry out your skin. You can use a warm washcloth
to wipe off your face before bed to help open your
pores and wipe off any oils from the day.
Use moisturizer after washing your face, especially
before using makeup. Moisturizer will help your skin
from becoming dry with or without makeup. Makeup
will go on smother if you use moisturizer first. There
are moisturizers for any type of skin, so be sure to get
the proper kind. Using the wrong kind of moisturizer
can cause your face to become too greasy or too dry. If
you’re not sure what type of moisturizer would be best
for your skin, ask the professionals at the salon or take
surveys online that can help you discover what type of
skin you have.
Tips for lips:
When choosing a lip color, it is
best to match it against your skin
tone; test the color on the back of your
hand to match. Some colors will wash
you out. Knowing how the color wheel
works will help because it shows the
contrasting and complimentary colors.
UR World,
R Thoughts
Wearing light pink or peach, nude,
or browns is best for fair skin. When
choosing a bold color, be sure to choose
a darker shade of red with more of a
pink tint because any orange, red will
wash you out. Fair skin has more of a
pink undertone, so staying with the
pink colors will look beautiful.
Medium skin will need medium pink,
red, and more orange colors. This skin
tone will work with the orange tints
because the undertone is more yellow.
Yellow and orange go great together, so
using a bold orange/red lip will bring
out the beauty of your skin.
Olive skin tone will want to go with
dark lips: Rose, purple, red, apricot.
Because there is a yellow undertone
to your skin, you will be able to wear
orange or purple colors. Since your skin
is darker, you want to stay with a darker
tint to accentuate your skin.
Dark skin tone will look beautiful with
dark chocolates, dark pink/purple, and
golden browns. If you want to try an
even more bold lip, go with an almost
white/purple to really make your lips
pop. Dark skin undertone can be yellow
or pink, so once you discover your
undertone, you will be able to match
your lip tints.
Q
With all the things happening in the
world, why do people think that their
views and beliefs are unequivocally
correct, there in making the entire world
wrong. What is it that leads we as people
to think that we need to push our views on
everyone else as well as the idea that radicals
are a reflection of all involved?
A
Dear Politically Correct,
That is a great question, one which
I wish I had the answer to! I agree, people
can be very polarized, think their way is the
“right” way, try to push their ideals on others,
and believe that extremists represent all all
members of a cause. I’m sure others more
well-versed in the psychology of politics than
I have written books on the subject, and
have plenty of insights to share. My two cents
is that our degree of open-mindedness can
often depend on how we’re raised, and we
frequently hold the beliefs our families do,
which are consistently reinforced throughout
our lives. Of course, I can also think of plenty
of people I know whose politics couldn’t be
further away from their family’s, but I think
even this divergence is influenced by families.
For some, going against their family’s views
can feel like a betrayal, so they hold on even
it doesn’t make sense to them. For others, the
dissonance between what they were raised
to believe and how they feel are so far apart
that they feel they must be true to their own
convictions, and voice their opinions, despite
potential negative pushback. Something to
keep in mind, is that despite the problems in
this country (and world), we are very lucky to
live in a country where we are free to express
ourselves and have differing opinions!
The The benefits of of cleansing the the body body of toxins of toxins
are are abundant and and will will undoubtedly undoubtedly create create a
change a change for better for better health. health.
first step to take to find the right
product at the right price for you.
Some may not realize the benefits
a colon cleanse has for the body, or
may have never considered giving
it a try. Perhaps it has crossed the
mind of some as a simple jumpstart
to losing weight. The benefits of
cleansing the body of toxins are
abundant and will undoubtedly
create a change for better health.
Colon cleanse products work to
eliminate toxic waste, increase
energy, improve body balance,
and benefit detoxifying organs. A
cleanse will nourish and strengthen
the waste-filtering process and
promote a healthy colon. Many
cleansing products rid the body of
environmental pollutants, which
really is a jumpstart for overall
better health.
Bodyecology.com says, “Think of
your colon as the waste management
station of your body. All of the cells
and tissues in your body – and your
major organ of detoxification, the
liver – rely upon a well-functioning
colon so they can cleanse your body
of toxins.”
Because waste products are stored
in the colon, bad bacteria, viruses,
yeast and parasites can breed. The
average person has 7 to 10 pounds
of fecal matter in their colon,
despite every day bowel movements.
Detoxification pathways can be
blocked, allowing toxics to build up.
It is estimated that the average
person is exposed to over 123 toxic
chemicals each day from food,
water, air, stress and personal care
products.
It may not be a pleasant topic to
think about, however, it is important
to consider ridding the colon of all
that is harmful to your wellness.
There is a long list of health
issues that can step from a poorly
functioning colon.
If you are not feeling up to par,
cleansing the colon is a good place
to start. If you have felt bloated or
backed up, look into a colon cleanse
that will work for you.
It’s hard to know where to start
when considering a cleansing
product. Consumers may turn to
general retail stores and chains
such as nutrition stores, but there
are other—perhaps better—choices
and several options can be found on
the Internet.
Of course, there is a variety of
information available on the
Internet, and that may be the best
One all-natural and thorough
cleanse is Nature’s Sunshine Clean
Start (available online for as low as
$45). It can be found in two different
flavors and has drink packets and
capsules to last for 14 days, if taken
twice daily as recommended. In
choosing to do this cleanse once
daily, the cycle will last for 28 days.
This product is recommended for
use once every six months. Clean
Start has been called the most
complete herbal cleanse available
and delivers 10 grams of fiber per
day to promote waste removal.
With any colon cleanse product,
follow the instructions and consult
your physician before use.
Also, when considering the colon’s
important function, it is necessary
to remember to consume enough
water and fiber daily. Physical
activity also helps.
Remember to do conduct your own
research when looking into whether
or not a colon cleanse is right for
you, and which product may work
the best and deliver beneficial
results.
