NUDE: Give us a little background on yourself and
where you grew up.
Logan: Since my parents were divorced, I grew up
splitting my time between Hawthorne and Marina Del
Rey, CA - pretty much two diferent worlds, with
Hawthorne being a rougher area where I could've
been in more trouble and Marina Del Rey being a
more upper class area with a bunch of rich people. I
grew up a huge anime/manga and video game nerd. I
was always into the arts. Literally anything, whether it
be drawing my own comic books, trying my hand at
calligraphy, playing guitar for hours in my room, or
writing really shitty, gory screenplays, I did it. I was
always a really shy kid, so this was all I did when I
came home from school. Honestly, it wasn't until
sophomore year of college when I found my love for
photography.
NUDE: What do you feel you can accomplish through
photography?
Logan: I feel like I can accomplish a lot. Photography
in general has always been a way to feed my creative
drive. I took a pretty long break from it recently and it
literally drove me insane. Not being able to create,
conceptualize, and express myself made me feel like
shit and ever since then I knew I should probably be
doing this for a living. Aside from keeping myself
sane, I just think I can (hopefully) inspire and instill
that sense of fearlessness in others. I want people,
especially younger kids, growing up not being afraid
to take a chance. Get out there and try and if you fail,
try again! Trust me, you won't always get it right the
first time, but not trying is "artist suicide."
NUDE: What would you do if you knew you could
never fail?
Logan: I'd gather up all the money I had, make art
house films all across the world and take photos of all
the inluential people I met throughout the diferent
cultures I'd experience. I want to make films and work
on projects that challenge peoples' views and change
not only how we see the world, but how we see each
other. Another goal of mine is to inluence people through
film making. So, if I knew I couldn't fail, I'd definitely dive
in head first (as of yesterday). Ater that I'd probably settle
down, brush up on my Japanese, move to Japan and teach
film photography out there - just a personal dream of
mine.
NUDE: What type of themes do you pursue as a
photographer?
Logan: The themes I explore through my photography are
things I can relate to. I always subconsciously project a
little bit of "me" onto my subjects. I allow them to use
their own personal modeling style but every now and then
I challenge them to bring their own awkwardness, angst,
disinterest, boredom, and sadness - things I used to deal
with on a daily basis. Plus, it always makes for a better
photo, in my opinion. Also, through my self-portraits I try
to express myself as who I truly am: a soter black male. It
sucked growing up in a world where, if you're a black
male, you have to be macho, less intelligent, and play
basketball or rap to be accepted by society. Through my
self-portraits, I want to show that it's ok to be "sot," to be
artsy, to be diferent, to be you. I need the next generation
to know that.
NUDE: If you were not in the photography scene, what
would you be doing right now?
Logan: I'd have to be doing something creative, that's for
sure. I'd probably be making music in some capacity or
maybe I'd fulfill my childhood dream of being the next
great comic book artist. Maybe I'd be doing both - who
knows, but if I'm not creating I'm not happy.
NUDE: What type of person do you consider yourself to
be?
Logan: An introvert with extrovert tendencies.
Sometimes I wear my emotions on my sleeve, sometimes
I show none at all. I'm just someone who lives for selfexpression
and creativity and through that, I want to
show people it's totally fine to be yourself, try new things,
and do what makes you happy. Fuck what anyone else
thinks.
