Invisible Art/Invisible Artist
Thursday, July 21, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Presenter: Tom Finan
The editor is often the unsung hero of the film world. Editors get to tell the story
of a film and their contribution is essential to the final product of a theatrical,
television and animated feature film. Tom will discuss the physical workflow
necessary to create what we finally watch at home on our television or in the
theater. Learn more about how editors contribute to the art, craft and technology
of filmmaking.
Tom Finan has worked for over 4 decades as an editor in television and film. His
credits include The Lion King, Platoon, Hercules and Stuart Little, among many others.
Screenwriting: I’ve Written a Script, Now What?
Friday, July 22, 10:00 – 11:00 am
Without being a Hollywood insider, what can you do to get your script in circulation and consideration?
You will learn about screenwriting from a veteran and also have the opportunity to register
to win a copy of "Movie Magic Screenwrier". Philip Sedgwick started out his writing career at a
reality TV show, Everything Entrepreneur, which aired on a non network Arizona station. His second
screenplay effort, Neon Cactus, was a quarter-finalist in the 1990 Nicholl Fellowship and a finalist in
the 2011 Amsterdam Film Festival. Philip’s latest film, Mirage, at Zabul Province won Best Short Film
at the 2013 Prescott Film Festival.
RED Camera Demo
Friday, July 22, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Presenter: Colin Glenn
RED Digital Cinema was founded in 2005 by Jim
Jannard, who had previously founded Oakley. The
company started with a small group of entrepreneurs
in a warehouse who wanted to build affordable,
high-end digital video cameras and believed
that 4K video was the future of digital image capture. The RED One
was arguably the first affordable camera that provided filmmakers
customizable features and out-of-the-box functionality with
the “feature film quality” known to much more expensive 35mm
film. Films shot on RED include The Martian, Straight Outta Compton,
Jurastic World, Avatar 2, Transformers: The Last Knight, Pirates of the
Caribbean. TV programs include
House of Cards, Better Call Saul, The
Man in the High Castle and Game of
Thrones. Need we say more? Yes we
do! The Yavapai College Film and
Media Arts Program will be accepting
delivery of two RED cameras in
the fall.
Come see a demo of this amazing
camera by Colin Glenn, Road
Storytelling, the Humanities and
Filmmaking
Sunday, July 24, 1:00 – 2:00 pm
COMMUNITY ROOM
Presenter: Dr. Suzanne Waldenberger
Martin Scorsese says, "Young people
need to understand that not all images
are out there to be consumed like,
you know, fast food and then forgotten.
We need to educate them to
understand the difference between
moving images that engage their
humanity and their intelligence, and
moving images that are just selling
them something.”
Join Dr. Suzanne Waldenberger as
she discusses the importance of storytelling
and how storytelling engages
the humanities in strong screenplays.
The workshop is presented in part by
AZ Humanities.
