By Everton Barnes
Many of the nation’s
youth, coming under the
umbrella of the the National
Youth Ambassador Corps,
have been embarking upon a
four month advocacy campaign
entitled “Speak Up,
Speak Out 2”.
A spokesman for the
group said this campaign
follows last years’ successful
campaign entitled “Speak
Up, Speak Out” which focused
on four (4) health and
social issues: glaucoma, the
decriminalization of marijuana,
alcoholism and diabetes.
For this year’s programme,
the NYAC has focused
on three areas which
include: (i) mental health
and disabilities, (ii) climate
change and the environment,
(iii) sexual health and reproductive
rights.
These according to the
spokesman will be followed
by next month’s campaign
for Health and Safety.
The Road Safety Campaign,
launched on June
27 th , 2016 via ABS TV, is a
joint undertaking between
the NYAC and the Antigua
and Barbuda Road Safety
Group designed to promote
increased road safety and
awareness for both drivers
and pedestrians.
The campaign has been
fueled by the surge in road
fatalities in 2015 which have
claimed the lives of many
including our nation’s youth.
As such, the NYAC will
collaborate with the Royal
Police Force and corporate
Antigua to advocate for
safety and zero fatalities in
2016 and beyond.
As a part of the activities
for the campaign, the NYAC
will be filming, producing
and publishing several Public
Service Announcements
to be aired via its social media
accounts and ABS Television.
This, the group will undertake
hosting chats with
relevant stakeholders including
the Antigua and Barbuda
Drag Racing Association to
pinpoint several of the dangerous
driving situations
which have been overlooked
but can result in loss of limb,
life and damage to property.
The NYAC invites the
Meanwhile, as a part of
its 2016 Work Plan, the National
Youth Ambassador
Corps has launched both its
YouTube account on June
18 th , 2016 and a new webisode
entitled NYAC Youth
Chat on Monday, 20 th June,
2016 at 5:00 p.m.
The focus of the programme,
which airs every
Monday at 5:00 p.m. is to
begin a conversation with
the nation’s youth about social
issues which affect their
daily lives.
The Chat show, which
has focused on the relationships
and Carnival thus far
will be airing videos concerning
Road Safety.
cont’d from pg 1
catering almost exclusively
to immigrant children,” he
declared.
He noted that the ABLP
had complained about it in
opposition as it goes against
Antigua and Barbuda’s longstanding
policy and commitment
policy towards the
regional integration movement.
Recently, a senior official
in the ministry of education
re-affirmed that the policy
will continue that sparks a
public outcry.
