<strong>CUT</strong> ANNUAL REPORT <strong>2011</strong> | 15<br />
• Through the Winter School more than 10 schools managed to improve their overall performance to above 80% on average in their<br />
Grade 12 results. More than 2 500 learners have enrolled in this programme, with more than 1 100 learners in Mathematics, Physical<br />
Science and Life Sciences.<br />
• At the end of <strong>2011</strong>, the two projects (Saturday School Technology Project and Winter School Project) were combined to form the<br />
Schools Advancement Academy, so as to create synergy between them.<br />
• A new project, the Educator Mentorship Development Project (EMDP), was launched in <strong>2011</strong> and is financed by the Telkom<br />
Foundation to the amount of R4.5 million over a two-year period.<br />
The EMDP is a developmental project aimed at addressing the shortage of skills among teachers in the<br />
specific areas i.e. STEM, and the focus is on foundation stage education.
