Partnership between <strong>CUT</strong> and NIHE: NC<br />
<strong>CUT</strong> and NIHE: NC signed a working agreement to collaborate on the implementation of the DHET policy on higher education provision in<br />
the Northern Cape Province. To consolidate this collaboration even further, negotiations were held in view of seeing all <strong>CUT</strong> operations at<br />
the New Park Campus site being incorporated into NIHE: NC in <strong>2011</strong>, the rollout of the implementation of the agreement, role clarification,<br />
as well as handover of administrative functions to the NIHE: NC was facilitated.<br />
In <strong>2011</strong> <strong>CUT</strong> offered programmes in the Faculty of Management Sciences to 288 part-time students, while twenty-four part-time<br />
lecturers were employed at the New Park Campus of NIHE. Video-conferencing and Blackboard e-learning support, in addition to library<br />
services, form part of <strong>CUT</strong>’s academic support.<br />
Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology<br />
Co-operations with JCSE, Carnegie Mellon University and the Free State Provincial Government<br />
Three staff members underwent high-level software development training through the Johannesburg Centre for Software Engineering<br />
(JCSE) and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) based at the Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. The Free State Provincial<br />
Government entered into an agreement with <strong>CUT</strong> regarding the establishment of an IT Hub based on a concept paper drawn up by <strong>CUT</strong>.<br />
This co-operation is underway and a software development project is in process.<br />
Co-operations with Free State Public Works<br />
The Centre for the Built Environment completed the re-training of Free<br />
State Public Works employees and submitted Adult Basic Education and<br />
Training (ABET) study material to the Department of Public Works and<br />
Transport.<br />
Working with Industry: Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing<br />
At the CRPM an astounding 496 projects were completed during <strong>2011</strong>,<br />
ranging from titanium part manufacturing for the medical and aerospace<br />
industries to rapid tooling.<br />
