<strong>CUT</strong> ANNUAL REPORT <strong>2011</strong> | 63<br />

The Faculty of Humanities was engaged in the following strategic partnerships during <strong>2011</strong>:<br />

• Partnership with Mpumalanga Department of Education: Training of BEd students in Mpumalanga.<br />

• Partnership with the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA):<br />

Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) training to Maluti FET College lecturers in Qwaqwa.<br />

• Partnership with European Union (EU): BEd foundation-phase project.<br />

• Partnership with UP, University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and DHET: Development of BEd<br />

foundation-phase programme in mother-tongue instruction.<br />

• Partnership with Harmony Gold: Support of students enrolled at the School of Jewellery Design and Manufacturing in Virginia.<br />

• Partnership with Aalen University in Germany: Support of Communication Sciences students.<br />

• Partnership with University of Lagos in Nigeria: Postgraduate supervision.<br />

• Partnership with Heidedal community: Development of community newspaper.<br />

• The School of Tourism, Hospitality and Sport was one of the main sponsors of the annual Volksblad Tourism Town of the Year<br />

competition, with other sponsors being Volksblad, Capitec, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI).<br />

• The School of Government Management, as a partner in<br />

the Executive Development Programme (EDP) of the Public<br />

Administration, Leadership and Management Academy<br />

(PALAMA), was involved in a number of facilitation sessions<br />

in collaboration with the consortia of several different<br />

universities, including North West University (NWU) [Leader<br />

Consortium], University of the Free State (UFS), UKZN, Durban<br />

University of Technology (DUT), Vaal University of Technology<br />

(VUT) [Leader Consortium], University of Stellenbosch (US),<br />

TUT, and University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).<br />

• In partnership with the Local Government Sector Education<br />

and Training Authority (LGSETA), the School of Government<br />

Management again facilitated learning and conducted<br />

quality assurance with regard to the National Certificate in<br />

Integrated Development Planning (IDP). LGSETA granted full<br />

programme-approval status to <strong>CUT</strong> as a provider of education,<br />

training and development for the mentioned qualification, as<br />

registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)<br />

of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).<br />

• The Local Government Accounting Certificate (LGAC), which<br />

was launched in 2010 in collaboration with the Association of<br />

Accounting Technicians (AAT) , continued in <strong>2011</strong>. Accounting<br />

technicians work in all sectors of the economy, including<br />

accountancy practice, industry and commerce, and the public<br />

sector. Nine students received the LGAC in September<br />

<strong>2011</strong>, while 19 students received the AAT Certificate in<br />

November <strong>2011</strong>. Accounting technicians work in all sectors<br />
