I S TVÁ N H A R M AT H sets his viewer in front
of a life situation and its direction. The celestial
will’s manifestation is hanging its swing from the
cloud that gives blessings but means curses. He
has cut a path for himself among the change,
communication between earth and sky, manifestation
of divine speech, time, breathing, the rhythm
of life and death, eroticism and symbols of the
passing moment. by putting an egg on the swing
he refers to the original ancient state, but through
the grinding intervention of the form reminiscent
of a self-portrait he invites us to a self-examination,
or maybe due to the will of the celestial,
or the imagined superior power he is trying to
model the manipulation process of the ancient
consciousness, rocking it to sleep, stupefying it.
In order to keep the peace and security from ruling
the situation, the word pioneer is targeted on his
forehead.
A small plastic soldier which we may say that
carries the pioneering nature, though in the
present context, though its recycled expertise it
is trying to fulfill the job of an alarm, or maybe
of the one who stigmatizes.
In his other two works István Harmath is playing
with the thoughts of selection, marking, classification
and treatment.
