On the upper side of the plank, I drew a "safety margin" line 3 mm. outside the waterline. This was the line used for cutting. On the lower side of the plank I did essentially the same thing: 6 mm. for the thickness of the hull, plus 3 mm. as the safety margin. The top side of the lift that goes from waterline 11 to 13. One can see the waterline (green) and the 3 mm. safety margin. The extreme width of the plank indicates that the hull is almost flat between these waterline. The bottom side of the same lift that goes from waterline 11 to 13. The distance between the green and red lines on the bottom of a lift is 9 mm. : 6 mm. for the thickness of the hull and a 3 mm. safety margin. 2. Half lifts a. Cutting the half lifts Since I can't use electric cutting tools because of the anti-coagulants I take, I subcontracted the cutting of the lifts to my old friend and ship's carpenter, Manu Allibert of Saint Tropez. He found the planks well prepared and cut the lifts with his band saw, working for a total of five hours. b. Preview of the finished rough hull
