with <strong>the</strong> Abu Ruweis Formation <strong>in</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn Jordan.<br />
The ma<strong>in</strong> reservoir <strong>in</strong> Meged is <strong>the</strong> Mohilla<br />
‘A’ member, which consists of a porous carbonate<br />
gra<strong>in</strong>stone facies with porosities rang<strong>in</strong>g between<br />
3% to 12% and permeabilities rang<strong>in</strong>g between 0.5 to<br />
5mD. This is encountered below 4,000m <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Meged<br />
closure and covers an area of around 180 km 2 . The<br />
overly<strong>in</strong>g anhydritic mudstones of <strong>the</strong> Mohilla ‘B’ and<br />
‘C’ members provide <strong>the</strong> top seal over <strong>the</strong> structure.<br />
Hydrocarbons <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Meged oil field are sourced from<br />
<strong>the</strong> regionally present Silurian shales, as typed by oil<br />
recovered from <strong>the</strong> Meged-2 and 4 wells.<br />
Carbonate Build-Up Anomaly<br />
Could <strong>the</strong>re be carbonate reef play <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Triassic of<br />
Jordan similar to that <strong>in</strong> Ma’anit <strong>in</strong> Israel? A number<br />
of anomalous seismic features were noted with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Triassic <strong>in</strong>terval on several seismic l<strong>in</strong>es dur<strong>in</strong>g a study<br />
undertaken for Petrel Resources <strong>in</strong> 2005. Although<br />
<strong>the</strong>re appeared to be some type of build-up with<strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> section aga<strong>in</strong>st which beds at <strong>the</strong> same level abut,<br />
it was also possible that <strong>the</strong>y were merely seismic<br />
artifacts. However, re-process<strong>in</strong>g of all <strong>the</strong> seismic<br />
l<strong>in</strong>es has shown that <strong>the</strong> features are actually real.<br />
When all examples of <strong>the</strong>se features were plotted<br />
(both ‘possible’ and ‘relatively certa<strong>in</strong>’), <strong>the</strong>y were<br />
seen to fall with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> central part of <strong>the</strong> Triassic<br />
Bas<strong>in</strong>, where salt is developed with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Abu<br />
