Programs of Study 57 ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREES (Christanna and John H. Daniel Campuses) Award: Associate of Applied Science Length: Sixty to sixty-nine credit hour program Purpose: The associate of applied science degree program is designed to meet the increasing demand for skilled workers in industry, business, the professions, and government. These programs normally require two years or less of training beyond high school. They may include preparation for agricultural, business, public safety, health and medical, industrial, service, and other technical and occupational fields. The curricula is developed to meet the needs for workers in the region being served by the College. Program Descriptions: The associate of applied science curricula have descriptions developed to meet specific occupational objectives for each program. Additionally, each program requires general education courses in communication, humanities/fine arts, social/behavioral sciences, and natural sciences or mathematics. In consultation with counselors and faculty advisors at <strong>SVCC</strong>, student should choose the courses that are most appropriate for their specific degree. General Education Elective Course Selection: 1. Social/behavioral science electives may be selected from any of the following areas: economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, sociology, and social science at the 100 or 200 level unless specified in the curriculum. 2. Humanities/fine arts electives may be selected from any of the following areas: art, communication studies and theatre, English (non-composition courses), foreign language (including American Sign Language), humanities, music, philosophy, and religion at the 100 or 200 level unless specified in the curriculum. 3. Courses not included in the list above may be used as electives with written justification and written approval of the divisional dean and/or the Vice-President for Academic and Students Affairs.
