s mentioned in the introduction of this
issue, our sister publication The Family
Buzz has fallen foul of some production
problems this summer. As a result, they'll
be skipping the September issue, so we've decided
to include some more family/grandparent friendly
content here in Golden Times. As a result I've been
asked to "introduce" this section of the magazine
which focuses on family activities.
Those of you who provide a little (or a lot!) of
childcare will be able to get lots of inspiration from
the next few pages. From childcare options to after
school clubs to ideas for great days out,it's all here!
Even if you're not spending time with youngsters,
the places to visit featured here offer a fantastic
day out whatever your age.
"Back to school next week" has been met with a
wide variety of responses from my grandchildren
recently. Everything from "I'm so excited!" to "Don't
ruin my holiday by talking about school!" to "It's
called university grandma.". The age and mood
of the grandchild in question has a great bearing
on how enthusiastic they are about the end of
the summer. September is definitely an exciting
and challenging time of year for youngsters of all
ages, whether they're entering their first year of
big school or their last year of university.
As the summer holidays come to a close, I'm never
sure whether to be relieved
that I'll be getting more
peace or sad that I won't be
seeing so much of the little
ones. Whichever it is, I need
to make my mind up and get
on with it, because before you
know it, October half term
will be upon us and they will
be tearing about the house
again. In no time at all, I'll be doing my best to see
that pumpkins are carved without anyone losing
an eye and they'll be asking me to make terrifying
costumes so they can roam the streets frightening
sweets out of unsuspecting neighbours.
I must confess that just the thought of Halloween
has made my mind up that I shall be relieved
once the lot of them are safely in someone else's
care being educated. Time to enjoy some Indian
Summer afternoons and have a glass of wine in
the garden I think...
