Clinical Nurse Specialist SIG<br />

The CNS SIG was formed to address the needs <strong>of</strong> the Clinical Nurse Specialists<br />
in Florida. <strong>FNA</strong> worked to get title protection for Clinical Nurse Specialists in<br />
2005 and continues to work on the definition <strong>of</strong> the role in the Nurse Practice<br />
Act. The members <strong>of</strong> the SIG submitted a Reference Proposal to the 2014 and<br />
2015 Membership Assemblies which passed at the latter meeting. The SIG meets<br />
monthly by conference call to address scope <strong>of</strong> practice concerns and has joined<br />
with a state-wide group to further articulate the valuable contribution CNSes make<br />
when allowed to practice to the full extent <strong>of</strong> their education and experience.<br />
Further clarification is needed in law to allow CNSes to practice to the extent they<br />
do in other states. This SIG continues to work diligently on this issue, which has<br />
been included in the <strong>FNA</strong> Legislative Platform.<br />
