The Inland Revenue Department is encouraging all property owners, who have not paid their property tax to date, to please come in and settle, or make arrangement to settle, their outstanding amounts. Failure to do so will result in enforcement action being taken by the department to collect these outstanding amounts. The Department of Environment (DoE) is seeking to formalize the protection of waterways, under Part IV of the Environmental Protection and Management Act (2015), in order to achieve timely and sustained management of our waterways. The DoE, through the Minister of Environment, will be establishing a Watershed and Wetlands Management Committee who will manage watersheds and hydrological features, inclusive of ponds, drainage systems, and ghauts. The Environmental Act of 2015 provides for the mapping of all hydrological features, as well as policy measures and actions to remedy problems that are contributing to flooding and public health concerns. The public is hereby advised that this protection will be afforded to ponds, drainage systems and ghauts on both public and private lands. These measures will serve to improve drainage and reduce incidences of flooding. Leewards Executive concerned about youth teams’ poor performance By Vanroy Burnes The Leeward Islands executive is overly concern about the poor showing of the youth teams in regional cricket say’s President Enoch Lewis. Speaking on the good morning JoJo sports show on Monday morning, President Lewis said something is definitely wrong and the executive has decided to get at the bottom or the root of the problem. President Lewis said the U-15 and U-17 performed very poorly in the regional youth tournament placing at the bottom of both competitions, but the U-19 narrowly missed out of the championship by a single point in the 3-day tournament, Lewis went on to say that the Leeward Islands had good enough players to have won the tournament. He was however, very disappointed in the 50 overs version of the tournament when the Leeward Islands placed fifth after performing so well in the longer version. President Lewis said the Leeward’s Board will be holding a meeting at the end of the month to examine all the reports from the coachers. The President said the TDO of the Leeward Islands in the capacity of coach of the U-19 did not go down well with him and said that will never happen again, because the TDO has special responsibilities. President Lewis said there are a number of issues in Leeward Islands cricket that needed to fixed and his executive is working hard to ensure that Leeward Islands get back to the level it once was when we formed the backbone of West Indies Cricket. President Lewis noted that he is hoping to have a training camp here in Antigua for about three days before the start of the West Indies Cricket Board (PCL) tounnament. During this camp he is hoping to have Individuals like Sir Viv, Sir Andy, Sir Curtly and other past Leewards greats working with the team as the prepared for the upcoming season. Upon being questioned, the head coach, President Lewis said there is no rush to replace him in spite having a poor season last year, but he is hopeful that his performance will improve otherwise hard decisions will have to be made. The President noted that the Leeward Islands is currently without a CEO after Mr. Berridge moved on, but at present two individuals in Vernon Springer and Peter Abraham is filling the Gap at present until a new CEO is appointed.
