4 c a r i b b e a n t i m e s . a g Tuesday 20th September 2016 Post Office employee remanded By Alecia McPherson Two General Post Office workers landed before the St. John’s Magistrates Court yesterday facing a number of charges following a fight at their work place. Gregson Luke of Bendals Village is jointly charged with his co-worker Jean Pierre Le Blanc of McKinnons for disorderly conduct by fighting. Both accused are also charged separately for assault, and being armed with offensive weapons. The court heard that during Youth accused of attempted murder remanded at HMP By Alecia McPherson 21-year old Anthony Cornelius of Cassada Gardens appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Jo-Ann Walsh at the St. John’s Magistrates Court facing an indictable charge for the Attempted Murder of 53-year old Gersham Henry of Clare Hall. The offence is reported to have occurred on the evening of September 15th last week in Clare Hall. It is reported that Henry was rushed to the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre with life threatening wounds to his abdomen after allegedly being stabbed multiple times by the accused. The accused was placed on remand at HMP and will return to the Magistrates Court on December 6th, 2016 for committal. the altercation which occurred on the morning of September 15th last week, Le-Blanc physically attacked Luke with a mop stick, Luke in turn drew for his cutlass with which he returned physical blows. Luke pleaded guilty to all but one charge, ‘armed with offensive weapon; the question posed to him was “ were you or were you not armed with a cutlass during the fight?” The accused stuck to his plea and answered that the tool was not for the fight but was to be used for a gardening project he had later that day. The prosecution did not accept Luke’s plea and made an application for trial, his station bail was revoked and he was remanded at HMP to await trial. Both parties will return to the St. John’s Magistratess Court on December 1st, 2016 for Trial. By Alecia McPherson Delroy Lester Horsford aged 28 of Golden Grove New Extension appeared at the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court yesterday facing three counts of traffic offence charges and one count of illicit drug charge. On Sunday July 31st, 2016 at about 9:00 p.m. Police, while on mobile patrol duty in the vicinity of the Golden Grove playing field caught the defendant driving a white Suzuki Swift bearing number plate A27370 without headlights. “Officer mi nah realize dem nah on, me just get back me car from the mechanic” he reportedly stated to the investigating officers. Parker Mental instability is being blamed for a stone throwing incident over the weekend. An All Saints man appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel yesterday charged with the missile throwing matter. Though the charge was not put to the accused, it is understood that for no apparent reason, he threw several stones at lawmen, who were on the job. The court would hear that the offender has a history of psychiatric issues, to the point where he has been treated at the Clare Vue Psychiatric Hospital. A further evaluation has been ordered, but until then, the accused has been remanded. No one was injured in the incident. Golden Grove man fined for traffic, drug offences license, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving without vehicle insurance. In court, Horsford pleaded guilty to all charges. For the drug offence he was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of $120.00 forthwith, or serve one month in prison; he was also convicted and fined $1,000.00 for each traffic offence, of which $1,000.00 was ordered forthwith and the balance by December 31st, 2016. In default of payments he would serve concurrent sentences of one year in prison on each charge.
Tuesday 20th September 2016 c a r i b b e a n t i m e s . a g 5 New law year opens today By Joanna Paris Today signals the commencement of the New Law Year for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. The occasion will be marked with the usual Ceremonial Opening, in the form of a Special Sitting of the Court. The Order of Proceedings for the Ceremonial Opening here in Antigua and Barbuda will begin with a Thanksgiving Service at the Methodist Church on St. Mary’s Street. At 8:45am, the procession will leave from the Methodist Church and make the way to the High Court, led by Police Band. The inspection of the Guard will take place on the grounds of the High Court while the Special Sitting of the High Court will take place at 10:20 am. Parker A thousand dollars bail was extended to an All Saints youth accused of larceny. Akeel Burnham appeared in District B before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on the said charge recently. Of the principle sum he was asked to deposit $500. Burnham was also asked to surrender his Ladyship Hon. Dame Janice M. The address will cover It is with the deepest sense of grief that AUA College of Medicine and the Muslim Student Association (MSA) mourn the loss of Mudafer Dhaher. Mudafer left behind a wife and three beautiful daughters ages 8, 6, and 2. The MSA, of which Mudafer was a beloved member, and the AUA community as a whole feel the loss of Mudafer. His teachers knew him as a bright and intelligent individual and an outstanding student. He was someone who usually kept to himself and his studies, but was always more than willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He always remained positive no matter how stressful the challenges of medical school became. To Mudafer’s family and friends, AUA offers its most heartfelt, sincere condolences. He will be missed. A campus memorial service will be held for him on Tuesday, September 20th at 5 PM in the Flex Room. Cooks Hill man to stand trial for wounding the two parties got into an argument while at a local bar on Lower All Saints Road. It is alleged that during the exchange the accused wounded Simon to the right side of his face with a cutlass, he was admitted at MS- JMC where he was treated for his injury. The accused was not required to plea to the charge and was committed to stand trial at January assizes at the High Court.
