DUBAI FUTURE CHAMPIONS
FESTIVAL: AUTUMN LADIES DAY
The Velvet girls are back to help select the best dressed lady
from the Dubai Future Champions Festival
Taking place on the 7th of October at Newmarket Racecourses’, Rowley Mile, the winning
lady will not only take home the coveted title, but thousands of poundsworth of prizes too.
We round up the key looks which will have you race-day ready:
Oscar de la Renta
1. Pinstripe Suits
It’s the 90s craze again, but re-invigorated with wide leg trousers
and boyfriend cut blazer - a perfect combo that can be dressed up
or down, be worn together or as separates. As seen at Calvin Klein
and Max Mara.
2. Statement Furs
Be prepared for all eyes to be on you, as this season’s furs are
show-stopping. Think striped, ombre and patchwork. If you’re going
for this look, wear everything else as plain as can be. As seen at
Fendi and Oscar de la Renta.
3. Pink and Yellow
An interesting colour combo which is refreshing amongst the berry
and navy shades which usually dictate the autumn colour palette. If
you’re not sure, block colour one shade, and accessorise subtly with
the other. As seen at Delpozo and Sies Marjan.
Calvin Klein
4. Embellished Gloves
Gloves will become distinctively impractical this season, so where
better to wear your tasselled, studded, metal-clad and embroidered
gloves than the races? As seen at Marc Jacobs and Prada.
Gemma, Editor of Velvet Magazine
“Race-day fashion tends not to follow the catwalk trends in their
entirety, as there are many rules of etiquette still in play when it
comes to suitable racing attire. The most stylish ladies will offer
a subtle nod to a favourite trend, and this year I feel we will see
many statement furs, bell sleeves, chokers and 70s inspired
platform shoes and boots.
Autumn is a great season fashion-wise, I find it so much easier
than summer. You know you will need a coat, tights and full shoes so there is no second
guessing the weather as you do in summer.
That being said, hats do need to edge on the practical side, so don’t be tempted by the
fabulous structural masterpieces available. One gust of wind and they’re gone, along with your
lovely coiffered hairstyle! As with every season, certain trends don’t work for a day at the races,
so leave behind your puffa jackets, PVC, tinsel tops and 90s sports hoodies. So cool, but really
not appropriate attire for the Premier Enclosure!”
