He took second place individually at the SouthWest Suburban Conference Tournament Sept. 27, and his team took first place overall. How did you start playing golf? It started right before my freshman year. My friends were all going. I never went before, but my grandparents always did, so I actually used my grandpa’s clubs to go out with my friends, because we were just bored on a summer day. What is your proudest moment so far in golf? Probably getting my holein-one. This summer, I got one at University of Notre Dame’s golf course. That was really cool. What are your goals? This year, me and my two friends who are seniors, we have big goals for the team. We’re trying to make it down to state and hopefully play well down there. What did you work on This Week In... I think just practicing chip shots around the green has lowered my scores crazy amounts, and especially practicing my putting so much. What is the most challenging part of golf? The most challenging part for me is keeping my composure. Sometimes, after a bad putt or after I hit a bad shot, I’ll get frustrated. I’ve got to just leave it in the past and focus on the next shot. What would you buy if you won the lottery? Good question. I don’t know. I’m not a big spender. Maybe a car? Probably a car. I like BMWs a lot. Who is your favorite professional athlete? It’s got to be Tiger Woods. I think he’s a big reason why I stuck with golf and kept playing golf. He seems like a really cool person. He’s obviously a great athlete. I like to stay in touch with my friends. Then, probably my golf clubs. I don’t know what I’d do without them. What is your favorite subject in school? Physics is really hard, but I’ve got a pretty cool teacher, and a lot of my friends are in my class, so that’s a fun class. What is your dream job? When I was little, I always wanted to be a firefighter. But as I grew up, I think now I want to be an orthodontist or a dentist. A lot of people say that teeth are so weird, but it’s not that weird to me, I guess. I wouldn’t mind being involved in that field. Interview by Editor Tim Carroll.
