16 | October 20, 2016 | The orland park prairie School opprairie.com School News Providence Catholic High School Two from Orland Park named Students of the Month Dr. John Harper, principal of Providence Catholic High School, recently announced the school’s Students of the Month for September. Every month, each academic department chairperson selects one student as its Student of the Month from a number of students nominated by faculty and staff. Students of the Month receive a certificate of recognition, have their photos displayed in Providence Catholic’s main hallway for the following month and are invited as a group to have lunch with the principal, as well as Assistant Principal Janlyn Auld. The Providence Catholic Students of the Month for September include Kyle Laird (Class of 2019, of Orland Park, mathematics) and Samantha Dorning (2017, Orland Park, world language). Northern Illinois University Orland Parkers among spring graduates Northern Illinois University recently announced the Help YOUR customers For Advertising, Contact awarding of graduate and undergraduate degrees at the conclusion of its spring session. Among them were the following Orland Park residents. Joy Adams graduates with a Bachelor of Science in business. Patrick Birk graduates with a Bachelor of Science in business. Justin Magnan graduates with a Bachelor of Science in business. Andrew Grimberg graduates with a Bachelor of Science in education. Derek Mokersky graduates with a Bachelor of Science in engineering and engineering technology. Marc Wiktor graduates with a Bachelor of Science in engineering and engineering technology. Tanya Carter graduates with a Doctor of Education in education. Ashley Alzoubi graduates with a Bachelor of Science in health and human sciences. Kevin Koch graduates with a Bachelor of Science in health and human sciences. Western Illinois University Four from Orland Park earn bachelor’s degrees A total of 537 students earned academic degrees or post-baccalaureate certificates after the summer 2016 semester at Western Illinois University. Of these, 41 graduates’ primary attendance site was the WIU-Quad Cities campus. Bachelor’s degrees were awarded to 426 graduates. Academic distinction was awarded to baccalaureate graduates who achieved high grade point averages. This includes: summa cum laude, 3.90 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale; magna cum laude, 3.75–3.89 GPA; and cum laude, 3.6–3.74 GPA. Master’s degrees were earned by 99 graduates. Twelve individuals earned post-baccalaureate certificates. Alyssa Rose Murray, of Orland Park, earned a Bachelor of Science in law enforcement and justice administration. Nicole Marie Richard, of Orland Park, earned a Bachelor of Science in recreation, park and tourism administration. Travis Jirik, of Orland Park, earned a Bachelor of Science in law enforcement and justice administration. What is one essential you must have when studying and why? An eraser, because it helps me keep my paper neat, and I can use it to erase any mistakes that I make. What do you like to do when not in school or studying? I like to read Junie B. Jones and the Magic Tree House books. What is your dream job and why? I want to be a police officer, because I want to keep people safe. What is one thing people don’t know about you? One thing people don’t know about me is that I used to live in Oak Lawn my whole life, but I moved to Orland Park last summer. Whom do you look up to and why? My dad, because he always gives charity to help the orphans. What is your favorite class and why? My favorite class is art, because I like to paint and be creative. What is one thing that stands out about your school? One thing that stands out about my school is that all the teachers are nice, and there is a downstairs.
