Tick tock: The clock is ticking on 2016 Halloween Costume Contest
Thursday, Oct. 20
marks the last day
for early entry prize
eligibility
Bill Jones, Managing Editor
Know what’s scary?
A whole week has passed,
and while we here at publisher
22nd Century Media
have already received plenty
of entries in the 2016 Halloween
Costume Contest, we
know our papers reach approximately
90,000 homes
and businesses in the southwest
suburbs (and many of
those homes and business
have multiple people inside
of them), and we have not
received 90,000-plus entries
at this point.
That means some of you
are holding out. Or hate Halloween.
If you’re in the latter
camp, we have nothing for
you here. Turn back now!
But as for the former, what
are you waiting for?
Send us pictures of your
most creative costumes, and
you can win prizes in one of
The Prizes
A breakdown of the prizes available in
22nd Century Media’s 2016 Halloween
Costume Contest.
Best Adult Costume
• A $25 gift certificate to Artesá Baking
Company, 14045 S. Bell Road in Homer
Glen.
• Two hours of free bowling for up to
six people — along with a pitcher of pop
and a 12-inch pizza — at Laraway Lanes,
1009 W. Laraway Road in New Lenox.
Best Children’s Costume
• A $25 gift certificate to Odyssey Fun
World, 19111 Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park.
two categories: ages 17 and
older, 16 or younger.
Maybe your are the Joan
Jett of your family’s collaborative
Blackhearts effort. Or
you ingeniously dressed up
as a giant candy pail (Halloween
costumes can be functional).
And we know at least
a few of you must have your
Ken Bone costumes already
put together (please keep the
“sexy” ones to yourself).
Just send them!
We’re going to pick just
one winner across each category
from all seven of our
southwest suburban towns:
Orland Park, Tinley Park,
Frankfort, Mokena, New
Lenox, Homer Glen and
Lockport. So your entries
need to be good.
We have just a few rules,
which you can check out in
one of the accompanying
sidebars.
While the competition
may be tougher this fall, the
prizes are well worth it, as
a number of area business
have stepped up to sponsor
• Four passes good for one free child
admission apiece at The Children’s
Museum in Oak Lawn, 5100 Museum
Drive in Oak Lawn.
Early Entry Prizes
• Two free admission tickets to the
Creepy Hallow/Fawn’s Fall Fest &
Pumpkin Farm, 24405 S. LaGrange Road
in Frankfort.
• Four passes to the Hayride of Horror
in Dellwood Park, 199 E. Woods Drive in
Lockport.
• A pass good for one walking 9-hole
round of golf on Rolling Hills, courtesy of
Silver Lake Country Club, 14700 S. 82nd
Ave. in Orland Park.
our two categories (the prizes
are detailed in the other
accompanying sidebar).
In addition to the usual
prizes, however, two local
businesses donated passes to
their haunted attractions (as
well as one “seasonal” activity)
which would not do
winners much good after the
holiday. So we’re going to reward
three people who enter
the contest early this year.
Anyone who enters by 5
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, —
entries must be received by
The rules
1) You have to be the person in the costume. You
cannot submit for anyone else, with the exception of
parents who submit their children.
2) Each person can only submit one costume for an
entry (basically, you cannot send yourself in multiple
costumes — pick one), though families can send one
entry per person (and they can be submitted together)
from different members of the family.
3) We understand there may be a bit in the way of
scary imagery (such is the nature of the holiday), but
the costumes have to be relatively family friendly to be
considered and published. Nothing beyond PG-13.
4) Entries must be submitted no later than 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 2, to bill@opprairie.com or 22nd
Century Media, c/o Managing Editor Bill Jones, at
11516 W. 183rd St. Unit SW Office Condo 3, Orland
Park, IL, 60467 (physical entries cannot be returned),
along with names, email addresses and/or phone
numbers, and towns for each of the entrants.
5) The entries will be judged by 22nd Century Media’s
editorial staff, with winners being chosen based on
creativity, successful execution of an idea, quality of
craftsmanship and consideration of the holiday/season.
6) All entries are subject to being published.
then — will be entered into
a side drawing, from which
three names will be picked at
random to receive one of the
three pass packages (editorial
team’s pick) highlighted
under the “Early Entry” section
of the prizes sidebar.
